Thursdays with Tynaal: Wheel of Time Games

Sorry for the absence, guys, but we're back! Hopefully.

One thing I have always wondered about but never really did much research on was Wheel of Time games. So, this week, I snooped around the Internet (as per usual) and found quite a few interesting things.
There is of course the first-person shooter video game, which was released in 1999 by Legend Entertainment. In this game, you play an Aes Sedai by the name of Elayna who is also the Keeper of the Chronicles. As I mentioned before, it is a first-person shooter, but rather than having weapons like guns and swords, the character is armed with ter'angreal that have different abilities such as an offensive action or healing. The storyline is not like the books at all, but rather Elayna Sedai chases after Darkfriends and protects the seals on the prison of the Dark One.

A site that caught my eye was the Wheel of Time MUD (Multi User Dungeon). It seems to me that joining in on this MUD game could involve a lot of fun in a Wheel of Time themed virtual world. It is possible to create your very own character and choose where they are from, what sex they are, and whether they're a Hunter, Rogue, Channeler, or Noble. I've only just started finding my way in the game, but it shows promise. There are various other MUD games that you could also try, including Age of Chaos and The Great Hunt.

Red Eagle and Obsidian are said to be working on a new adaptation of a Wheel of Time game, although the only information that I could find on a release date is said to be at the end of this year, at the earliest estimate.

Other than those games, there's always the Role-playing forums that can enable you to dive into the world Robert Jordan created. Our very own Role-playing groups come highly recommended. Have a look and see if any games catch your fancy!

I have that FPS WOT game :) I had to install an internal OS that runs win95 just so I could play it because it wasn't compatible lol.

I remember that game very well. It was really good for it's time. Great visuals, great music, multi-player, and Shadar Logath was pretty much just like I imagined it. Nice!

I have been thoroughly impressed with the FPS game. A friend purchased it for me for Christmas. While how a woman could even earn the shawl while barely being able to channel without ter'angreal makes no sense, the system is fast, and I had some girl-squealing moments while running away from Mashadar in Shadar Logoth. Mind you, Amnesia didn't really affect me, lol.

As an aside, the 3rd edition 2001 WoT D&D RPG isn't bad. I've made alterations to it as needed, but the magic system is surprisingly solid and makes sense better than just about any other I've read. I'm DM'ing a campaign with a few friends now, and the party recently split in three directions.

With all that positive feedback I'll have to give the FPS game a go! Getting things sent to here is such a hassle though.

I just bought that FPS on eBay last week! Hasn't came in the mail yet though. I didn't have a computer when it came out so I've never played it.

Oh, and as a side note, while looking it up I read some of the boxes were shipped with 2 disk 1's or 2 disk 2's, so it might be better off to buy an opened copy if you plan on playing it. The company doesn't exist anymore, so you can't get it exchanged.

The FPS game is absolutely fantastic.. I loved it when it game out and still love it. I remember the approach of Machin Shin scaring the bejesus out of me at the time.. nothing else in a game has scared me like that. I still play it, such a fun game.

This is one of the best FPS games ever! With attacks, counters, and a host of user generated content it certainly still holds my attention as it requires speed, skill, knowledge in ways that most FPS don't ever achieve. There is a facebook page https://www.facebook...s/118966223249/ of almost 200 users who are more than happy to help you config and optimize the game for modern computers.

The single player experience is also loads of fun and I found myself immersed in the world and genuinely scared or thrilled at times, not bad for a game that's 12 years old! Marvelous!
