It's Wednesday, which means Tor.com has a treat for us. As I mentioned last week, during the weeks between Brandon Sanderson's "musings" on each Wheel of Time book, Tor.com will post eBook art wallpaper for each of the books.

This week, the featured eBook wallpaper is for The Eye of the World. The artwork is by David Grove. Here is the image:

i dont to admit it... but the art makes me think its a pirate book... very misleading and un-appealing...

I agree this cover really doesn't have a WOT feel to it. I know Rand and Mat were on Domon's ship but that was a very small part of a MUCH bigger story.

Speaking as someone who has read the entire series, I thought this scene was a nice choice. It made me nostalgic for simpler times, before Rand lost his innocence and everyone thought they were embarking on some grand adventure.

I would've preferred a different scene.  This wouldn't have appealed to me if I started the series looking at this cover.

BlackAjah, I unapproved your comment because you mentioned something in there that didn't fit with the PG-13 rule on our site.

I downloaded the wallpaper in the appropriate resolution for my laptop.  It looks nice, but even with maximum brightness for my display, it is a bit dark...as is befitting the tone of the book, I suppose.  My desktop looks like mahogany. Anyway, I now understand why Tor did not make the image larger. As reproduced on my 13" laptop, some of the edges in the painting appear soft and ... fuzzy.

I still love the painting (and the rest of the WOT paintings by this artist), but I don't think I'll be using this wallpaper as much as some of my others.  Like my wallpaper of Dr. Manhattan or Silk Spectre II.  (For those of you who are also fans of Watchmen, check out these wallpapers!)

This doesn't feel like a Wheel of Time cover.  I'm wondering who is responsible for these cover decisions.  If its the same person who  kept allowing Sweet to produce the covers, they should be fired.  Still though it IS better than Sweet's works.. Though to be honest, I'm not sure how they could've been WORSE.
