The Wheel of Time Nominated for Hugo Award

JenniferL

We are very pleased to announce that the entire Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan and completed by Brandon Sanderson was nominated for a 2014 Hugo Award in the category of, “Best Novel”.

The Hugo Awards are science fiction and fantasy's highest honor. They are awarded each year by the members of the World Science Fiction Society at WorldCon. These awards have been given annually since the 1950’s and are often referred to as “the Oscars of science fiction.”

We are incredibly pleased at this nomination and would like to congratulate Brandon Sanderson and Team Jordan, and especially Harriet McDougal, for their incredible work seeing the series to completion after Robert Jordan’s death. We only wish he could have lived long enough to see his masterpiece honored this way. We’ll have more thoughts on the nomination and what it means in a few days.

To vote on the Hugo Awards, you must be a member of this year’s WorldCon, taking place August 14-19 in London. For information on the convention and a complete list of nominees, please see their website. http://loncon3.org

You can still join LonCon as a supporting (not attending) members and all members get to vote. I was supposed to go to London this year, but those plans fell through. But I shall most certainly be voting for my favorite story ever! A lot of haters are complaining right now out on the Internet, so now's the time to show them they aren't the majority.

Just watched the nomination of TWoT. Little bit of surprise and laughter when TWoT was announced. They also announced that there was a 43% increase in voting this year from the prior years. Which probably means that the 43% probably signed up to nominate TWoT.

Where are you seeing people hating, tnsabregirl? I'm a member of WSFS and I absolutely think this story deserves to be recognized, and I'll tell them so! :)

Thanks! On Tor, looks like it's mostly just one guy, hatin' a lot and starting to not make much sense. Glad to see more and more people coming into the thread.

Well, we just need to make sure that we who are voting in the Hugos give the other entries their due. Read all the entries (or as many as you can) and vote for the best. That's the only way to show what quality fans we are!

Yes indeed, tnsabregirl! And I don't doubt that we're all going to do just that. Because we're all that quality of person. And we all want to find new sf/f to fall in love with!

In case anybody wants to follow drama, there's a collection of posts-so-far on the Hugos at this link:

I think I'm going to get back to reading. I've already found one novella on the short list that I couldn't put down!
