Barnes & Noble to release leather Collectable Edition of The Eye of the World

Jason Denzel
  • Barnes & Noble is publishing a new leather-bound edition of The Eye of The World. Available September 30, 2016.

Barnes & Noble plans to release a new, leather-bound edition of The Eye of The World. This new edition will be available in stores on September 30th. You can also pre-order a copy online.

The Eye of the World--the opening volume of The Wheel of Time saga--joins an impressive list of well-known novels in Barnes & Noble's Collectible Editions.  The images provided on B&N's website show the spine and cover (shown here), as well as an interior photo and the back cover.  The interior looks the same as the editions we're already familiar with from Tor.  The back cover includes an error in that the "ancient Aes Sedai" symbol is improperly reversed the wrong way. Despite this error, I think we can agree that it's a fine-looking book, and one that's worthy of our shelves.

There are no announced plans to make similar editions for other WoT books, and no plans to provide these overseas. B&N is publishing this with assistance from Tor Books, who owns the U.S and Canadian rights.  There is already a nice leather-bound copy of The Eye of the World available from Orbit UK

Do we know if they will be doing the whole series?

My guess is probably not, but they might change their minds if they sell a ton of them

Anyone else hope that this is meant to be tied into a better announcement or at least an official announcement of the television series adaptation?

I sincerely hope so!

I wonder how much they are gonna charge for this? A 100 dollars or more? This is something I can do without. One thing I might pay money for is if TOR released TWOT books 4-14 in trade paperback. I am talking about those big paperbacks almost the size of hardcovers like for books 1-3. I would not mind hearing some news about TWOT tv series adaptation.

I think books 4-14 have been released in trade paperback with the new covers. Also, this book is only $25, so cheaper than if you were to buy a normal hardcover edition of The Eye of the World.

Thanks for filling us in about the price for this new book. Its there for anybody who wants it, and not nearly as expensive as I thought it would be. I probably still won't get it, since I like the original books with the dust jacket art done by Darryl K. Sweet. Except for AMOL and later TWOT books. As for the trade paperbacks, I forgot to add this to the first comment, but what I meant is that I would like to see trade paperbacks for books 4-14 released in original covers and art done by D.K.S. Books 1-3 are already out in trade, though it is hard to find TDR for this edition. I own the first three in trade by DKS and I would get books 4-14 if they were done with art and covers done by DKS in trade. I know I would get them. Just wanted to clarify that. Thanks for the info.

Just got my copy and I love it. It's not quite as nice as an Easton Press or Franklin Library edition would have been, but it's definitely an upgrade from the original hardcovers and, as a leatherbound book collector, finally something I can display on my shelves from my favorite series.

I hope everyone will write to B&N and Tor and encourage them to give the entire series the same treatment. I know I'll buy at least one copy of each, maybe two (one to read and one to keep pristine) if they do!

Looks good to me. I could use a better binding, too. I'm not sure if the first editions were cheaply made or if I just read them too many times, but I wore them all out to the point of them actually falling apart. I have a few of the other  B&N collector books and they're nicely made and durable. I'm happy they're giving WOT the treatment. It's kind of a big deal for establishing a broader significance for the series.
