First Draft of A Memory of Light Completed

JenniferL

This morning, Brandon Sanderson reported on Twitter and Facebook:

Ladies and gentlemen, A Memory of Light--the final book in The Wheel of Time--has been finished.

As for when the book will come out, Tor should do an announcement soon. Revisions will take a good six months. So fall, I expect.

Another common question: How many revisions will I do? The last two took about a dozen. (On no-wot books, I do about seven or eight.)

Sanderson's estimate of a fall release date is consistent with earlier statements he made on Twitter, comments made by Justin Golenbock, his publicist at Tor, and hints dropped by Orbit UK that we reported on earlier. As soon as we have an official release date from the publishers, we'll be sure to update our A Memory of Light info page to reflect that.

While writing the final scene, Sanderson linked

on Youtube for inspiration. We've linked to it, in case anyone would consider it a spoiler.

What a momentous occasion. Been reading these book for 15 years, now in a few months it will all be over. I'm getting quite emotional :S

I just started 3 years ago and am on the 4th read thru ;) The last two books only 2 times each.

Hoping the success of the final 3 books will push TOR to have Brandon write the other prequels at minimum and maybe a follow-up or two. Then let the RJ masterpiece rest.

Until a good movie or tv series at least!

I started reading in The Eye of the World back in '96. 16 years is a long time but it will all be worth it when the last book ends. I cannot wait! Thank you RJ, Harriet, Brandon and team Jordan. And thank you to TOR for giving RJ the go ahead some 22 years ago.

I have been reading this series since I was 12 years old. 20 years. This is bittersweet, but I am so looking forward to the last book. I can then always return to them, like visiting old friends. Very excited.

Must admit I am excited. I think I've been reading since about 92, so it's a 20 year love affair with them. I am sad to see it end, but also glad that we will now have finished works in our hands. Even if it does take a crane to lift the entire series. I just hope that Harriet allows a simultaneous release of the e-book version.

Wow. I have nothing to compare to how I feel about this. 20 years I have been reading this series. So many memories and so many of my dearest friends (not just on DM) were found because of this series. I could laugh and cry at the same time. How can you be sad and happy at the same time?! lol OH! And thanks for linkin that song to! As if things were heart breaking enough hahaha. Mr. Sanderson, you are a beast sir and have an epic amount of courage to take on something so huge. I have loved everything you have done so far and am very happy you were able to finish it. Though that shadow will always be there of 'is this how it would have REALLY been?' I am comforted that someone who is a true fan is finishing this. I can trust things will go as closely as they possibly could be. A million times thank you. God Bless and happy holidays.

I don't mind a fall release. I am on my 4th full re-read, and I am only on The Dragon Reborn. I have always been fond of fantasy books, but I passed up the Wheel of Time in bookstores countless times, until a trans-Atlantic flight practically forced me to buy a large book. Best decision I ever made!

From reading all these posts it is quite clear how amazing this series is! I haven't read it for 15+ years like many of you, but I have been reading it for roughly 9-10. I read the entire series I was in High School.. it helped me during many a hard nights during those "teenage years". I cannot believe the series is going to end... but all good things must come to an end.

20 year reader as well. Can't wait to finally read it. Thanks, Brandon, for working so hard on it. It will be strange not to have another WoT book to look forward to after next year.

and here I am only 10 pages away from finishing "Elantris" for the first time (having really enjoyed the "Mistborn" books thanks to Tor.com suckering me in with a free e-book download a couple years ago)

I see how Brandon was elected "the chosen one" from this story.

Will be so bittersweet to read.

As far as linking to songs for inspiration ... at some point, I don't know... maybe a climatic Last Battle type scene perhaps he could have used this for inspiration, Last Battle song link, I know it will be on my playlist when reading the book.

FINAL FANTASY X??!! Really...Yeah that means the ending will be a bitter sweet one, but an ending that has more questions than answers & makes you scratch your head if you are not used to FF endings

Wow. Picked up "Eye of the World",left on the seat of an airplane, back in 1990 ! Have re-read the series before every new release and am currently at chpt.2 in TGS. I think when I finnish the last one it will be a bittersweet feeling. Happy for the last book, sad to see it all over. I know I'll miss my friends,Mat,Perrin and Rand. Always enjoyed my visits with Rands' Da Tam also. Always had some good advice.

It will be a long wait.

FFX song is so sad it makes you wonder how everything will end... I've been reading WoT for 10 years. First in French (where i come from)and when i couldn't wait for the new books to be translated, i read the books in English. What an epic ! I moved quite a few times, i couldn't always bring the books with me and i think i bought each book at least 3 times (Tor loves me!)

Can't wait for the last book, i'll take a day off to buy and read it :-)

End of July? I don't expect (nor does the post indicate) it will be out before the Fall. They are going to take their time to edit this. As much as I'd like it out yesterday, they want to make sure its right.

Started reading WOT in 1990 after picking up EOTW at my local bookstore. A few years later RJ made an appearance at my local James Thinn bookstore in Dundee, Scotland. Along I popped with my books and had the pleasure of meeting the man himself. He was great! Signing all 5 of the books I'd brought along. I had my photo taken by the local paper standing next to him and made it into the next days edition!

20 years later and I still have these books, signed and with the photo!

Epic!

Hello everyone. It feels good to join this wonderful group of people. I have been looking at this site on and off for quite some time, but just never stopped long enough to join up. Well that time has passed and now you all are stuck with me.

I have been reading the series since around 1994 when only the first four books had been released. I have since read them so many times I can't count anymore. The only problem I have with this series is that it has kept me from reading so many other novels due to my constant re-reads. I have most recently went through them all in audio book format. Two thumbs up to Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, you guys ROCKED the audio version. I implore anyone who has only read the books to try the audio version as well, I believe that you will be very impressed. Mr. Brandon Sanderson, I cannot express how pleased I have been at the job you have done with insanely difficult challenge. Robert Jordan, if you are listening up there, I simply say Thank You Very Much.

Looking forward to another re-read, or re-listen, very soon.

PS: Harriet you ROCK as well. Thanks for all your wonderful editing and support in continuing Mr. Jordan's legacy.

I cannot wait for the conclusion to the greatest series I have ever read. I first picked up these books when I was in 7th grade. I have read through the series 9 times and am currently on my 10th read through. I amazed everytime I re-read the series, I always discover something new that I missed.
