About Me

NOTE: Sorry, life is giving me a real run for my time. I'm hardly ever around, but if you need me, please send me a PM and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Apologies! I'll be back when everything cools over!

Hello everybody! I'm Ferreira. I started reading the Wheel of Time only this past May, after years of my father pestering me to read them. I'm not as active on this site as I want to be (RL and all that), but I promise to make a valiant effort when I can.

I'm Canadian, but my background is Portuguese and Chinese. I'm planning on becoming a copy/acquisitions editor at a publishing house in the future (preferably Scholastic or HarperCollins or TOR), as well hopefully getting one of my own works published. I write novels in my spare time, and as often as I can, and have currently averaged about one a year for the last four years. One is currently in the works.

On the topic of the Wheel of Time:

The Shadow Rising is my favourite book in the series that I've read so far, but if the ending of The Great Hunt was a book all to its own, it would be my favourite. For characters, my favourite would defiantly be Perrin. Rand is a close second, with Mat and Aviendha tied for third. I'm currently still on A Crown of Swords (book seven), so please no spoilers!

For me, it was my father. He's been pushing for me to read them ever since I fell in love with the Lord of the Rings about four years ago. I tried reading the first one around that time, but something about the writing style really threw me off, so I stopped.

Then, about five months ago, I fell into a depression. I know that seems melodramatic, especially because of my age, but my depression was real and incredibly destructive. It really changed how I behaved and how I viewed the world. I was on the verge of emotional collapses almost every day. I hadn't read a good book in all of that time, and suddenly, I felt the urge to do so. I rooted around through my shelves and came across the Eye of the World. As I held it, I could almost hear my father telling me about how wonderful the series was and how much he loved it. So I gave it a shot.

Once I had gotten about halfway, I was hooked. I started reading again like I hadn't in quite some time. However. it wasn't until I hit the middle of the Great Hunt that I realized the true powers of these books. The ending was so epic that I swear it completely shattered nearly every last dark cloud I'd had hovering over my head for the last six months. In truth, it changed everything.

So, overall, I guess you can say that the Wheel of Time books saved my life. I'm finally happy again, and more than able to simply think about the books to get myself to smile. I owe my father that, for pushing and pushing for me to read this series. Now I recommend it to anyone, even if they don't like fantasy. Thanks Dad. :D
