My understanding of cults is that they vanillize players, and I don't think many people know more about mechanics than I. I could be wrong but it would be very unique

Maybe not, but I have seen cults that don't make people vanilla and we already have proof that John Is adding things.

 

Also, Tiink could just lie about what you say his alignment is if your on the same team. That's why a simple check won't work.
