Who Are WoT Characters Right Now/In History?

If the Dragon is constantly reborn, that would mean that at least one historical figure or present-day figure is Rand, and most likely Perrin, Mat or another character from the series as well.

So... using the logic of the WoTworld, who would you place your bets on?

I believe Artur Hawkwing was probably Julius Caesar and/or Alexander The Great, but I'd place bets on Mat as Alexander the Great as well.

I see a definite kinship between Lan and Saladin. Both had a military destiny that influenced many of their decisions.

Moiraine I could see as a reincarnation of Queen Elizabeth the First. Layers upon layers of personality, most of which are kept hidden.

I could see Elayne as a reincarnation of Emma Goldman. Just enough fire and willingness to do violence.

Still not sure who Rand would have been. Does he have to be a messiah figure, and if so, a successful one? Given the polygamy, we might consider Joseph Smith... ;)

Mat wasn't a general that desired territory.

Elizabeth Iwore layers upon layers of make up so it's hard for me to see her as Moiraine.

There was lots of polygamy in ancient times not just the LDS.  How about Jacob?

Artur Hawkwing was almost certainly Alexander the Great (Mat could have been Ptolemy or Seleucus though).

He could perhaps have been Caesar though I'm inclined to think Rand would be Caesar, or perhaps Augustus (if one isn't having him be Jesus anyway) - I think Hawkwing would be more likely to be Pompey actually.

In the 20th century I think we'd have to look at great enemies or at least rivals, Rand would make sense as Winston Churchill and I could see Hawkwing as Stalin (or some other blooddrenched Communist leader, Hawkwing's great dream was uniting the world after all).

most rebirths in the series/pre-series seem to have similar occupations to other lives.

Not sure if a rebirth could have similar goals/beliefs/convictions/etc as other lives.

Not true.  Rand stated that he remembered hundreds of lives, some of them as a "beggar."

@ryrin,

"rand stated that he remembered hundreds of lives, some of them as a beggar".

no he didn't.the lives rand saw during the portal stone incident were not from his

past lives, they were different possibilities for his own(rand al'thor) future:"he was

a soldier,he was a shepherd,he was a beggar,and a king,he was a farmer,gleeman,

sailor,carpenter.he was born,lived ,and died an aiel,he died mad,he died rotting,he

died of sickness, accident, age,he was executed, and multitudes cheered his death,

he proclaimed himself the dragon reborn and flung his banner across the sky...."

rand did remember his past lives during his dragonmount epiphany, but never said

anything specific about them:" he remembered lives, hundreds of them, thousands

of them,stretching to infinity.he remembered love,and peace,and joy,and hope."

Rand=Jesus despite pulling the "sword" that is not a sword from the "stone" of tear.

Artur Hawkwing I was surprised no one realized it as King Arthur.

Galad's name was derived from Galahad, as was Gawyn from another knight if I remember past conversations correctly.  This topic has been explored in the past off and on.

Actually, young one, you are completely incorrect. I quote directly from The Gathering Storm (kindle location 14137 of 14815, or two pages before the end of the last chapter) "He remembered lives, hundreds of them, thousands of them, stretching to infinity. He remembered love, and peace, and joy, and hope."

So....I suppose we can say that you're right in that the books didn't say he remembered being a beggar, but I do think an apology is in order for telling someone he was wrong when you were the one wrong.

I said "most"; your "some" would still make that true.

like it has been told, "beggar" was an alternate life (revealed through a Portal Stone trip) and not a past life.

and like it has been told, some of Rand's memories came from his visions in the Glass Columns terangreal.  those were for sure ancestors; the books do not tell one way or the other of they being past lives or not.

as far as I recall, Lews Therin was the only past life of Rand that the books tell about.

@art336,

leave your condescending attitude out of this discussion, you don't know the first thing about me.

am i completely incorrect?

ryrin's statement comsists of two parts, the first part is about rand remembering hundreds of lives,

the second part is about rand remembering being a beggar.

i am well aware that rand remembered his past lives on top of dragonmount and i did comment

about it in the second part of my post including the exact same quote that you so diligently provided.

you probably didn't bother to read my entire post and stopped halfway through.

as for the second part of ryrin statement, rand never said that he remembered being a beggar

not even once,so when i wrote "he didn't" i was referring to exactly that.

let me remind you that ryrin called mb statement"most rebirths in the series seem to have similar

occupations to other lives" not true because rand "remembered " living some of his lives as

a beggar, well, rand certainly did nothing of the sort.

so where exactly am i wrong?

Anla the wise counselor was Ann Landers

Mosk and Merk were Moscow and America and lances of fire nukes

Lem who rode in the belly of an eagle of fire was Glen Armstrong in a rocket

There was one that was Mother Theresea

I am surprised as this was a topic from a thread a long time ago listing all these names and what they were, these are those I remember off hand.
