The boy stumbled around, hands his in pockets, unsure of what was going to happen next.  Everything over the past few months has been a blur.  Sometimes, it was like he was running - heart racing, chest on fire -  but the faster his legs move the slower he goes.  At other times, he was drowning and didn't know which way was up.

 

He swallowed.  The air was refreshing as he climbed to the ledge.  The boy looked down only once.  Running through everything that had happened in his mind, he finally realized he didn't really know anything.  Once his eyes were parallel with the horizon, the boy took his first step.

 

Gravity is a hell of a drug, he thought to himself.

The boy opened his eyes.  They say the first step is the hardest, but for him, it had been the easiest.  How long had he been falling?  It was impossible to say.  But he knew that he had been falling long before he stepped off that ledge.  

 

Then, for the first time in a long time, he thought of everyone else.  What would they see if they could see him now?  Falling...no...floating down.  It was almost a soft glide.  And, much to his surprise, he was happy.  

 

The boy smiled.  Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring.  But actions have consequences.  His actions would have consequences, just the same as everyone else's.  But again - this isn't his story.

 

The more things change, the more they stay the same.  But nothing ever really stays the same, does it?
