My issue is that it has the feel of a post that doesnt need to be made. It is game related, but says nothing and means little. So why post it if ur town?

To be fair, townies can sometimes say unnecessary dumb sh*t, so I don't really think it's indicative. What bothers me is how he reacted in your exchange.

 

 

I thought this was his first game because I don't actually read everyone else's sign-up thread spam when I spam sign-up thread and never made it past the part where he said he was new.  I read it as disgruntled/half-hearted like 'great I have no idea what I'm doing and I have to be scum.'

 

I don't follow. He said in his OP (which I'm assuming is what you're basing all of this on).... Obligatory post. He asks for more content. Says he's not scum. What part of that sounded disgruntled/half hearted.... or that he has no idea what he's doing.... I don't understand. Explain.

Your question is a leading one. It says scum wouldnt do this obviously. But, then a good scum player would do exactly that to appear as town. So if your a reasonably good player the inherent behavior cannot really be judged either way.

I'm probably going to regret this, but I've got Calder as reasonable town right now.  I don't hate the reasoning for his initial push against Shad at all, and his response to Shad's question wasn't wrong IMO.

The reason that is being pointed out is because you reacted badly. You commented about him not being new. When he said he didn't believe you, Instead of explaining yourself, you waved it off by slipping into defensive mode with the quivering in your boots bit. It's swell that you explained later on... but your initial reaction was no bueno. So yes, it's gonna be pointed out.

Tbh I was sort of intrigued by Shad's initial response to my vote because I didn't actually have a reason for it. His explanation in misunderstanding that Calder isn't new was plausible at the least.

Funny.  I prefer early peeks since that way everyone knows they're fake rather than reads if you flip vanilla, and they're less easy for scum to ignore as consensus reads rather than peeks.  I'm curious why you think waiting until a "peek" is more easily dismissable as a read (and therefore less cover) is useful

The fact he's being helpful means ~nothing towards his alignment.  AJ is a very good player so I don't think he's incapable of making that post as mafia at all.  I think Mafia!AJ would probably WANT a bunch of early fakepeeks, since they (theoretically) would have a lower likeliness of being accurate and that helps narrow the NK poe, but I don't think he's going to come in and recommend it - especially when a handful of us recently played with him in the same setup when he waited to post a peek for accuracy reasons.  He was town, and I'm positive he's smart enough to know the sudden change of heart would stand out.

 

That being said, I don't see how it would ever warrant a FoS.  I'm giving him 0 towncred for trying to be helpful, but I don't see a reasonable argument why anybody would suspect him for being mafia for it.

...I actually think there's a decent shot Shad is mafia.  I have some reservations because some of the argument between them depends on what people feel constitutes "engaging", but I think his point about IR ignoring his questions was blatantly false.  And he seems to be avoiding the thread (not only IR, but everyone else) after IR came back about not answering the "would mafia...." question.

 

I tend to agree. His initial reaction sucked balls. Really don't like his question about what mafia would do... cause ldo. Don't know what to make of him pushing Calder.... mostly cause I don't understand where he's coming from... like at all. We'll see what he answers... but right now he's not making sense to me.

I guess if scum aren't Forsaken and they had three fake claims to go on it was easy enough to piece together if you're familiar with the lore.  I think the thought process behind immediately recognizing your character becomes a bad guy and casually throwing it out there straight out the gate is more likely to come from town.

I will concede that I forgot about your question to him in #75.  When you said he was spinning your questions into a scum read, I assumed you meant the question about how you would act as mafia - which he answered appropriately, IMO, despite it being a pretty bad question.

 

I think it became a "bad question" when he chose to call it WIFOM and assume I had a 'correct answer' in mind instead of elaborating on his thought process.  The WIFOM is whether scum would drop early reads, but that wasn't what I was getting at at all.  He dropped the 'fluffing post count' aspect out of the question when he answered.  It enabled him to say "a good scum player would do this to look town" while simultaneously calling it out for, in his opinion, looking really scummy.

 

Basically he answered it as if I asked the question to defend myself.  What he does have going for him in the engagement is that he immediately called out WIFOM without explanation and made me prod him to elaborate.  It tells me the thought might have come honest rather than being an attempt to smear me.  He's generally been focused on interpreting what I say while blowing off most of my direct engagement.  I think it's a pretty scummy way to play and definitely doesn't help if he's town considering almost no one here knows his usual style.

Yes my main focus has been interpreting what the motivations behind your statements have been. Bc we are playing a deceitful game and to be honest you have not acted as an honest person would. You suggest over and over that i am ducking engagement while you ask no real questions of me.

 

Your contributions have been to commit the scum trifecta of non-content/shady throw-away posts, jumping right to why would scum do this statements, and then wrapping up with the inevitable attacking your attacker in an attempt to draw attention away from yourself.

 

 

Why did you interpret my first question as WIFOM defensiveness without humoring the possibility that I am trying to get a read on you?  If your WIFOM interpretation is honest and you think my initial posts could be ones "good scum" make to look town, why do you treat them as so blatantly scummy?  Why are you still refusing to continue that conversation after I requoted my reply?  Your argument that I avoided engaging you is not consistent: when I pointed out that I had engaged you, you referred to a post that you made before either the 'blow off' or the 'engagement' post and basically said that engaging you after that point doesn't count.  This avoids the challenge.  I either did not engage you or my engagement does not count.  The former is verifiably false.  Why do you hold to the latter?  Where did I obviously misrepresent you?  These are the questions and points I have been raising.  They keep piling up because instead of addressing any of them, you keep calling them "worthless", not "real", etc.

Why should lack of eagerness indicate scumyness though?  That's what you meant as too easy, right?  It depends on a person's preference. I know some players that don't give a rat's ass when they roll town, and it's when they roll scum that they come to life. And vice versa. But without knowing the player..... it's moot.
