You still don't need to be talking about how awful town is here and how there's no chance town wins until 1) town IS actually playing badly as a collective and 2) More importantly, you have more games under your belt and can talk from the position of someone who is BETTER than collective derptowns.

Simply put, you're a newer player that is constantly trying to disparage the general play of players here, and it's close to intolerable.

Take a page from Cass and try ENDEARING yourself to us, for the love of God. Just stay far, far away from any post that resembles "town sucks" for a while, please.

I'm not and haven't said this game that this town is derping or daft. I said for songstress' argument to be valid, they would need to be. And my response is/was I don't give a damn. A town that is as uninspiring as songstress makes them out to be will lose, period. If such a town were to exist, and if I were to play on it, I would sub out long before it got eod1 and were they to ask I would tell them the honest truth: they suck.

Fyi, the next time you blatantly misinterpret my words and accost me over nothing I'm going to ignore you. This type of thing really isn't worth anyone's time.

This is the second time you're characterized (ooh, and a third) what I said to you as implying bad town play.   I'm not keen on your characterization there - what I was saying was a caution to you not to act like your vote is meaningless early in the game.  What the rest of the game does is what it is, you can only control your own vote - but your vote is more strategic here than in the standard hammer or hybrid hammer scenario.

I don't see how my vote carries the kind of weight you seemed to imply in your first post (I believe I bolded the segment that pinged me). I do think it's not entirely unimportant as it can lend credence to a wagon and people will pay a little more attention if there is one more vote present, but at the end of the day people vote the way they do because they find some aspect of a wagon compelling. Ideal world: everyone adjusts their reads as we approach eod1 and lynch whomever we collectively feel is the best target. Large deviations from this... I think are rare? At the very least errant votes 2 days or so before eod shouldn't lead to any sort of mislynch barring some sort of shenanigans.

Not going to weigh in on the slap fight (Des - that reaction to Wes, which I'll get to in recaps, was either full EMO or a bad impression of it for little reason, IMO), but I agree with this.  With two days left until EOD, I don't see an early vote as being particularly meaningful (why I'm not rushing to move on from Sili yet either).  If timing turns it into the plurality lynch decider, so be it - but the odds against that are low enough to make it relatively meaningless as a concern.

(@Nyn - you saw nothing scummy in Thane's early play?).

For him? No. Thane is a scummy townie.  He has a bit of a convoluted way of thinking that I don't always get and English not being his native language sometimes makes it even worse. I think he managed to improve the more he posted. ie at first he was all over the place, as per usual and then he managed to explain himself better. Of course, I'm hoping he's heeding my plea to try to be more transparent. But yeah, his overall participation and me feeling that he is trying gives him some brownie points. I'm looking forward to see if he keeps it up. Willing to revisit if he starts losing thread presence.

Sup

Townie post.

welcome  (you bunch of hooligans  )

Are you a wolf?

Salami scum.

This is what I pointed him out doing in the Firefly game that, according to him, is a town tell  LOL

Plz proper pronouns thxu

OH!  lol

I was talking about Salami. In the Firefly game he started off with the same commentary and he got mad when I pointed this out saying these are town tells of his and not scum tells. He did turn out being town that game, though, so that's something.

Sorry, I didn't understand what you meant when you said pronouns, Darthe.

Sili your ambivalent attitude towards your vote is just dumb. Please stop trying to defend an indefensible position.

I see.

##AJ

He pinged me early and I'm good with supporting a wagon on him.

Glancing at my notes and as far as I can tell your entire basis for AJ pinging you is that he voted for you. Is that the case? Or did anything else he's said / done stand out to you? And please don't just quote Kivam's case at me, I want to hear your thoughts on your vote, not his.

Yes sir. See, it pinged me because he voted me for the wrong reasons and too quickly.

i should be working late shifts this and next week, so i'll be present Nyn. And, go ahead, i'll hide the cameras while Krak clears you.

Btw, Krak... where you at? Same for AJ.... and all the others not really present.

Nyn engage with me here.

I want to clear you early.

How long until we get to hear more from you?

After I get off.

xD

By the way, unless I missed anything here's the vote breakdown:

Sili has made 6 votes.

Desalami has made 5 votes

Wombat has made 3 votes

Arsis and Kivam have made 2 votes

Myself, Thane, Dice and AJ have each made one

Everyone one else hasn't voted yet.

Also we've heard from everyone so far except ragnarok. We've not gotten any content from Cass or Hallia. Songstress and Stelio have also made very little in the way of contributions.

@Kivam: DPR and I have a bit of a contentious history. And I was genuinely upset (or emo if you will) @ him misrepping me by saying I shamed two players.

He said I implied Dice was playing badly, which I never did, and I asked him to show where I did. He still hasn't responded to that.

He also said I shamed YOU for saying the "defending/not defending" argument was boring even tho if anything I supported your side of it (that Verb defended Thane) and also recently said people shouldn't dismiss your opinion and act like you're an old mafia geezer who doesn't know how to operate these flagnabbit newfangled mafia trends and such

So again, he misrepped me twice to try and make me look like a butthole. So he's either scum trying to see if he can lynch me, or is letting our history affect his play this game and kind of being a jerk about it.

Des thoughts on yates claim and my being cleared? you never bought that up in your reads post.

So this isn't standard on DM at all, but this is a fairly common strategy on a lot of other sites, called seer cover. In theory it allows the seer to remain hidden while also revealing his inno viewings should he (or she) die.

And that's exactly what I took Yates claim as. Seer cover, nothing more, nothing less. If he actually dies and flips seer, then yes Dice, you'd be cleared. But I don't at all think Yates is the real seer, that decided to claim even tho no one else had yet provided any seer cover besides him.

So it seems to me you bringing this up now is a bit sketchy. You didn't talk about it immediately like you genuinely thought you were cleared, you only brought it up when I named you as a potential suspect. I believe you're trying to "derp clear" yourself.

I bought it up because you DIDNT in ure reads where you put me and him together. I think ive played with a seer before but ive never heard of 'seer cover'. I took yates post as a true claim. it felt true. No idea why you would do that straigh out the gate but as i said it seems i know nothing about seer games.

@ despo

re OP the first line was meant as an observation not a whinge but i guess you could take it either way. not sure it really matters tbh. I never understand people saying this person is scummy cause of how they said they were here. its their first post. unless they do a Rand or unless you know each other well like verb/leelou i dunno what it tells anyone.

the three amigos thing. i was going to not comment on this. but seeing as people keep bringing it up i will once only.

I knew what he was saying. I knew why he was saying it. AJ totally got sold out by not playing along. and yates thing to me in marlfox gave me a read on him.

Could any of us abuse this? yes we could. but we choose not to.

Mafia doesn't HAVE to be about abusing every little thing you can.

look at turin and ithi. he buddys her no matter what but you can read him on it but what they NEVER do is go at each other. i cant think of a game where they even cased each other. Thats them keeping true to their bonded relationship.

does that make sense? I hope so cause i wanna leave it behind now.

Turin and Ithi aren't a great example tho because they kind of let their bond get in the way in mafia games, to the detriment of others ability to read them independently.

I think that there is nothing wrong with using an in joke or running reference to try and get someone to misclear you. There's nothing underhanded about that kind of move, it's just being clever.

Anyways, don't you think Yates trying to nix that NOW and not BEFORE the game began is slightly suspect? Like he wanted to keep from having to respond to you or AJ about that so as not to give himself away or break some imaginary sacred bond?

No i dont. IT came across to me as a very natural sounding post. I can see why he did it. yes before game wouldve been better but he didnt get that chance. despite a number of us asking for this to wait til marlfox was done, this has already started.

*Jumps back in, catches up (to page 24)*

It's been mentioned a couple of times now that I might be difficult to read and form opinions of 'cos I'm new and haven't provided much for others to go on yet, so I'm gonna jump in and try and address those issues real soon. I'll leave the complicated analyses/first impressions/gut reads/opinions of certain posts and things for tomorrow, sometime after I've had a decent sleep and can (hopefully) coordinate my hunches and gut feelings into sentences and formats that make sense/get me off your null lists.

For now I'll just start with introducing myself and ... stuff... so that y'all at have at least something to go by.

Importantly, I am really new to this. I know none of the unstated rules. Apart from a last-minute turbo game that mentorbat threw me into for training two days ago (yes, he really did (!) no, I did not do overly well, yes it was insanely fun  ), this is my first ever mafia game. I'm nervous.

Second thing is I thrive on a good mental challenge and I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I think it's going to be an annoying combination. I'm already over-analysing everything. EVERYTHING. I actually have notes . And notes on my notes. And I get way too wordy, all the time.

Third is I'm generally friendly and good for a laugh and it takes a lot to get me ruffled. If you're coming at me directly I'm fairly confident I'll be able to clear the air (come at me, bro!!). Hopefully my reads will be ok enough to move the game forward in time. But to this point it's been that first step, not knowing how to put myself out there to an unknown audience and manage to avoid possible mislynching due to reasons as 'stupid' as being new that has held me back... (What if I don't post anything and they think that I'm 'wilfing'? What if I post too much too soon and they think I'm trying something that I'm not? Who are these people? - when is too soon? - Are they playing for real yet, or not? Aaaaahhhh!) *g*

My flippant approach yesterday (#126) (and earlier in the signup thread) was a bit of a flop at engaging real interaction with anyone I didn't know, hopefully this one and the (more game-theory-related) stuff tomorrow is enough to get the ball rolling - now that I can see beyond doubt that the game has got to the serious stuff, I'm looking forward to settling in and playing with y'all for real. And yes, I know, it's more about show than tell (Thanks, monstr , I'll get to that part tomorrow).

In the meantime, Yates, Desp, thanks for voicing that I'm on your null lists and 'forcing' me to write this post.

Dice, *hugs*, you big blue cockroach (Aussie interstate rivalry for those who didn't know) - unvote me!!

#unvote  the stoopid maroon.

I liked this post. Feels like very natural Cass to me.

@Dice: Seers are just another name for Cops, essentially. But Tommy plays on sites that often give Seers a N0 viewing.

From what I understand tho the N0viewing is normally standard. Which is why I said Yates thing about reading his role pm late might have been made up
