Freemasons vs. Illuminati - Day One

SCENE ONE:

The note said they would come.  Getting over the wall had been easy, breaking into the Basilica would be harder.  Mason knew though that they only had one shot at this.  This game was about damage control, pure and simple.  The more you took from your enemy the less resources they had to throw back at you and with stakes as large as the corporate empires of America no tactics were off limits.  Not even this one.  A flash caught his eye, not more than a brief glimmer off something across the parapet and he began to move.  That was the signal he'd been waiting for.  Mason realigned his belay line and jumped into the bowels of the Catholic Empire.

Most came to St. Peters' Basilica through a Vatican Tour.  A brief smirk lit his face when he realized that he was probably one of only a few hundred people who had been here since the great Michealangelo himself.  The two men across from him, his brothers by bond if not blood, descended on silent lines that almost reached the ground.  Extraction was in four minutes.  Four minutes to get through the crypt, sneak past two armed guards, break the seal on a two thousand year old crypt and take the most coveted treasure of the Catholic church without anyone ever knowing they were there.

He repelled slowly down the line, making it almost halfway before he realized that the other two had stopped.  The one on the left, Francis he thought, was waving at him urgently.  It had to be bad.  He couldn't turn on the line like this easily but he craned his neck back over his shoulder as best he could to see what dangers lay ahead.

Two men strode purposefully down the middle of the Cathedral.  Two men dressed entirely in black suits, one bald and the other's hair receding.  He almost didn't notice the third man strolling leisurely behind them.  That's when he knew things were bad.  The man had the eye tattooed on his left hand.  Illuminati.

This night was a bust.  If they knew the Masons were after the chalice, had even a hint where the chalice really was, they'd sweep this entire building and the Masons would never come close to it again.  Silently as they had entered the three men crept back up their lines, coiling rope behind them, until they were gone out into the night with no sign that they had ever been.

SCENE TWO:

Mason, ironically named he supposed, kicked his boots up onto the roughshod table and let himself relax a bit.  God it had been a long day.  He lifted a beer to his lips and took a hefty swig before letting it down beside his seat.  To his right sat Sam, ever patiently waiting a scratch behind the ear.  He had grown calmer in his old age, maybe both of them had, but they knew they had a little fight left in 'em.  Still, he supposed, it had been a long time since he was on a mission.  Retirement was much sweeter.

The young ones were beginning to pour in now.  You could hear them from the other side of the wall, hopeful and restless.  Invincible, or so they thought.  He hoped they didn't find out the truth he knew.  In this fight there weren't any invincible sides, no deities or long lost relics, no right or wrong or good or evil.  No hope.

His beer grew warm on the floor beside him.

SCENE THREE:

It took nearly two days to arrive at Castello Di Vezio after the botched attempt in Musei Vaticano.  Two days, instead of a matter of hours, because you had to avoid all public transport and let your team wind their own paths through farm country.  None of your fellow Masons had been spotted but events were fast coming to a head and artifact or not they couldn't miss you own intersect with fate.  The lake, stunning as ever.  Mountainous peaks rose to snow topped heights above cool blue waters that fell down into streams snaking all the way to the Mediterranean.  For most, this was paradise.

You league rarely appreciated paradise anymore.  It was no wonder that everyone called you Gorgon.

It was growing late when the report came in.  Illuminati had been spotted in one of the waterfront towns, traveling in civil wear to avoid notice.  It appeared that for you and your group this mission just wasn't over yet.

At the time nobody knew how very true that stray thought was.  If anything, this was only the beginning.

SCENE FOUR:

Walking the streets of Northern Italia the young couple couldn't hear the shouts.  They couldn't note the panic as below them, in ancient catacombs, the Masons learned the truth and discovered their own folly.  Traitors had been found within their midst.  Old members and new alike were suspect, explaining how the Illuminati had thus far been one step ahead.  The Masonic lodge command had segregated a group of twelve, had shut them away without light or air to do what only true masons could do.

They were to find light in the dark.

It was panic in the underground.  Civility was a distant memory as brother turned on brother, as the situation escalated beyond control.

And then the first blood was shed.  In the tide of confusion it was hard to say who had thrown the first punch, who had succumbed earliest.  The result was the same.  A man lay on the hard packed Earth below ground gasping his final breaths.  Everyone stood frozen.  He coughed, a final struggling sputter, and fell still.

Tentatively, yet still efficiently, a younger woman moved forward to search the body.  Within a few moments she found what she needed and held it up for all to see.

An Illuminati triangular ring, stashed in a pocket.  On his finger lay a masonic ring.  Their insignia a lie on this mans dead fingers.

I was kinda surprised with the team from the last round. Kudos to them.

Now I gotta clean that slate and get a whole new grip on the game

Yates I actually watched the movie again the other morning just for you. Enjoyed it as always.

Oh.  I'll be dropping lines from that movie throughout the thread in my responses to you.  Just wait until the first time you try calling me scum you son of a motherless goat!

So Len we should assume you're scum for making the same OP right?

I wanna wait for TG to start his spiel against it first.

Considering retroactively mod killing you. I mean, you did already break the rule and its technically the same game. Not killing you feels like cheating.

Its Technically D1 and its targeted at myself, so id count it as a D1 Page 1 self vig. So either uphold your rules and fulfill my dream, or let it crash once again. Its up to you how to hurt me this time Darthe.
