The songs/books/films that everyone loves except you

Do you have a song like that? When you say you don´t like it, everyone tells you that it´s a crime to not like it. (The same goes for books and films.)

I really don´t like Stairways to heaven. When I was younger and hang out with a lot of rock star wannabies everyone had to play that song at every party. I´m not sure that I really liked it from the start. Everyone seems to love it except for me.

What are your songs/books/films that everyone loves except you? Tell us so we can go all "What?! How can you not like it!"

99% of th popular songs in the past 50 years i diont like, 99% of fantasy/sci-fi books dont like (such as hary potter, song of fire whatevre, wheell of time [aftre the first few books]), and most films i dont like. so probably all have to do is name anything in thos categories and there is ahigh probability i will respond i dont like it. i am mostly clueless of past and currentt "fads" when comes to entertainmennt media so im not sure what "everyone else" likes so much that i dont except few things (like star wars and game of throness and few songs i hear others listen to at times but i usualy dont know the names of [gangnam style or whatever is one i know the name o and the fact it is so popullar makes me a strong believerr in global pollutants lowering intelligence wordllwide lol]).

Serenity was a bit of a let down.  Firefly was really good though.

As for me, I'm not sure.  I like most things if I give them a chance.  I don't really have any interest in seeing Dr. Who but I bet I would enjoy it if I ever made the time.

I think you pretty much needed to see the series to have any sort of reasonable appreciation for the movie. *nodnod*

And I'm with you, Wombat.  I think I've seen one or two episodes of Dr. Who while at a friend's house - I liked it well enough, but I haven't really bothered to sit down and start watching the series even though I'm an Amazon Prime member and I can watch 7 seasons plus I don't know how many of the classic older seasons for free.  I'm sure I'd enjoy it quite a lot, but it feels like too much work

What Tress said regarding Firefly. Chae, if you watched the movie first, you would have missed a lot of the backstory involved. And judging the Firefly series by the movie is pretty unfair given how much it disappointed fans of the show. Basing your opinion of how you'll like the show on this would be like judging the entire Star Wars franchise based solely on Episode I. If you start with the worst point, then you aren't giving the rest a fair chance.

And Tress, Amazon's streaming selection of the old show is kind of spotty. So is Netflix's streaming selection. A better way to go would be a Netflix DVD subscription. And even then, there will still be some stories they don't have. YouTube, Dailymotion, and a bit of Google-fu will be good for filling in the spots you still can't find otherwise.

And I absolutely hated Dazed and Confused. I can't understand why people think it's an iconic comedy of the 90s. It's total garbage. There is no story to it. Nothing ever develops. A bunch of kids hang around, get stoned, do nothing... and that's all that ever happens. No plot, no nothing.

I think that's kinda the point Basel; there is no plot. Just a day in these kids lives.

Another thing for me: Coldplay. I really, really don't like them. They're exceptionally boring. It was especially bad when the first Keane-album came out and they got known, and everyone was always comparing those two bands. And if you liked one, you automatically liked the other... And if you didn't, you were frowned upon. I really, really dislike the voice of the singer, I think their lyrics are yawn-worthy, and the music is boring. It's all just really generic...

So I gave you some movies I don't get [Godfather Trilogy].

For TV?  Two and a Half Men.  John Cryer's character makes my manhood hurt.  Or really ANY of the CSI shows.  There are so many of them now that I can't watch a single one.

I thought ABBA would come up. lol

I don´t have many friends that watches CSI so I´m not alone there.  I have watched Navy CSI before. It´s hard for me to say much about TV series since I rarely follow any. The only series I have watched lately is GoT and Legend of Korra.

When it comes to films - I´m one of the few that don´t like Pirates of the Caribbean.

Songs - mainly Fancy by Iggy Azalea. I cannot stand it.

Books - Divergent. Not only is the writing horrible, it's a complete rip-off of the Hunger Games.

TV Shows - I don't like Regular Show and Gumball on Cartoon Network, or Spongebob. They are so irritating. I also don't like Attack on Titan much. I can't take it seriously with how the titans look and the animation gives me a headache.

Movies - I'm not a big fan of Star Wars. This is mainly because of the horrible, outdated special effects. If I was alive when it first came out, maybe I would have liked it.

Yes! Agreed 100%!

Go watch ONE episode of Battlestar Galactica circa 1978/1979.  THAT is what special effects were like in the 1970's.  Heck - watch 1983's Krull or 1984's Starman or The Last Starfighter or the original V television series from 1984-85.  These all came out WELL after Star Wars [in some cases almost a DECADE later] and still couldn't touch the special effects of the original Star Wars.  Plus, Star Wars is still one of the best scored movies of all time [all hail John Williams].  AND that all goes without even mentioning the brilliance of the foley artists.  Part of the magic of Star Wars is how organic the sound effects were.  These guys did AMAZING work that redefined the genre.  This is kind of hilarious but equally demonstrates my point:

Finally, Star Wars was a space OPERA. Before all the political BS of the prequels, it was about a mysterious "force" that binds the universe and an orphan kid on some remote desert turd-hole that wants to escape his fate as a monotonous evaporator farmer. And that kid finds out that he is special and afforded a way out of his humdrum life and whisked away into a world of adventure and danger. If you just think about the story from a very basic premise, it's basically the same formula used by later series like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson and The Mortal Instruments and The Sookie Stackhouse Chronicles and so on.

No, finally FOR REAL, there is no series in the world with better spoofs/riffs than Star Wars. I mean, come on... TROOPS??

I know Star Wars was amazing for the time and was the inspiration for many things, but it just seemed outdated to me.

Grease - i can't stand Grease. Yep, the music is catchy and I would sing along but the film itself? I knew the songs before I actually watched the film and all my friends thought it great, but I really hate the 'girl meets boy during the summer and they get along fine, but once in school he treats her really badly so she changes everything about herself and then he likes her again' plot.

Chetan Bhagat books (Chetan Bhagat is like the most popular Indian author but I don't get the point of his books, they are mainly elaborate love stories).

Movies- pretty much everything Bollywood makes these days (I lack the capacity to understand fast spoken english so can't watch much english movies and dubbing is always terrible)
