Mynd - in your talk about VTs and possible power emergence you stated that the Two Rivers boys had no powers in that book. But while that's true for Perrin and Mat, Rand began channeling in the EotW. He even fought Aginor and the Trollocs.

By the end, yes. If we are following the Mod's prose, however, we are still in Two Rivers at this point and Rand is nothing more than a farm boy wanting to take the droids to Anchor Head to pick up some power converters....wait, wrong farm boy.

I also suspect that Aginor and Balth are likely two of the other scummies in this game, and maybe Ishmael if there is a fourth mafia in this game.

First, here are some game calculations for those of you not afraid of the maths:

14 players in a Themed game about Eye of the World, the first book in WoT for those of you just here for mafia.

While I have learned that a "Basic" game does not necessarily mean just a cop, a doc, and 3 mafias, it does imply that it will be closer to that standard than an Advanced game. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that a lot of vanilla townies will make up the roster. It is also safe to assume that there will be no surprises such as "SUDDENLY, ALL TOWNIES CAN CLAIM A ROLE" or something of the like. It is reasonable to expect roles like Bodyguard, Vigilante, etc since they are still basic roles and they should fit like Moiraine's Doc role.

For a basic game to be balanced with 14 players, it is safe to assume that there are at least 3 to 4 mafia players in this game. 14 is an interesting number in that 3 out of 12 mafia would make for a balanced game, but so would be 4 out of 16. Worst case scenario, there are 4 mafias, one of them dead as fried chicken.

With one mafia down and two townies down on D3, we are now at 11 players with 2-3 mafia players among them. With our NO LYNCH on D1, we actually could afford to accidentally lynch a townie and still be in a winning position if 1) that townie is not in a power role and 2) their lynch would give us all a lot of information. Naturally, we would rather lynch a scummie, but it won't be as costly as it could have been.

Let's add some flavor to the math pot. The main antagonists in EotW were Padan Fain, Aginor, and Balthamel. Arguably, Ishmael would also be in the mix and that could round out a four player mafia team. Even Lanfear would not be accounted for at this point.

As we have seen with Lan (TG) and Thane (Min)'s deaths, roles do match the characters. Min had visions in Book 1 and Lan was indeed Moiraine's warder, which fits the bodyguard role. Moiraine's doc claim fits and if Loial is in the game, I would imagine some kind of watcher would make sense. Of course, there is also our favorite gleeman who is likely rolled in some way. This would account for three more rolled town players still in the game. With a game this heavily rolled, I'd bet we started with 4 mafia, not 3.

Based on my own character description, I believe that Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwyne, and even Nynaeve are all vanilla townies because that is what they were at the beginning of EotW. Even though Nyn had some knack for healing, it was nothing compared to the fierce channeling she had later on. My guess is those are five of your remaining vanilla townies. While there is a very slim possibility that at least one of those players is not in the game, it is highly unlikely.

Elaine, Gawyn, and Tam are lesser possibilities and could also easily fall into safe claims for scum. If Loial & Thom are in the game, and those five above are also in the game, that leaves very little room for anyone else. Hence, I doubt anyone who would claim to be Elaine, Gawyn, or Tam at this point.

My guess is the following:

Cop - Min

Doc - Moiraine

Bodyguard - Lan

Watcher - Loial

VIG or Tracker - Thom

Vanilla townies - Rand, Mat, Perrin, Eggy, Nynaeve

That's 10 out of 14 players. If we started with 4 mafia (Balthy, Aggy, Padan, and Ishy) then this would be the likely set up.

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way saying that this must be the setup. The Mod knows what he is doing and is a badarse at doing it. These are just my humble predictions on how the game is likely laid out based on the info we have.

Here is where I am currently reading from my POV.

First.....

The Dead

TG, Lan Mandragoran, Town Bodyguard, killed N1 - Here is his death scene. Several people seemed to try to put their votes on him but I don't think anyone knew he was going to flip as Lan in this case. Debate ensues as to whether he protected Moiraine or took the bullet himself.

Darthe, Padan Fain, Mafia Goon, lynched D2 - This is where I felt Darthe began actually playing the game, though I believe we all are playing the game from the first post no matter how "random" our D1 stuff is. Here, he offers his insight into the end of D1 results. He claims that Verbal and Leelou are both looking scum and that he is curious that both lynches stalled out. Hmmm, why did he choose Verbal? Then his fake claim. Why go with a fake claim he KNOWS will be outed? This is the post where I thought I hammered.

Thane, Min Farshaw, Town Cop, killed N2 - Here is the official vote count on D1 just a few posts before his claim. Only Leelou (the other train) unvotes because of his claim. Here is his death scene.

..and now, THE LIVING (color coded for your convenience)!

Tina - Wow. Even giving her the benefit of the doubt with being busy or half-arsed reading the game, she seems to be just making stuff up to justify her bandwagon vote. I think she is just following along with what her scum team is telling her. She's better than this when she's town and this gameplay reeks of a lazy scummie not bothering to do any actual scumhunting.

I mean seriously, take your pick of scummy posts: THIS ONE, or THIS ONE, or THIS ONE, or maybe THIS ONE? How about my favorire of the game,.....THIS ONE!?!

Despo - This is where Despo was leaning town on my roster. This is when I began to feel otherwise. He hops off the Leelou bandwagon to TG and then to Thane here. ...and this is where I believe the decision to sacrifice Darthe began. His "casing" is so fabricated, it reeks, hence my protest. Here, it is as if he knows Darthe will flip scum. Not suspects or even a gut feeling....he KNOWS. Like there is zero risk he won't flip scum. To me, the only players who know who is scum 100% is the scum team themselves. Accuses Hally of leading a CFD on Tina, when it was Leelou here. This post here seems entirely fabricated and rehearsed.

Leelou - She moved up to my scum list with this post/vote here. When pressure applied, she spits out a casing list here. Her lynch peaks here and then she claims Gawyn here while also blaming everyone for bandwagoning, which is what she did on Dawn. Jumps off the Tina train to join the Darthe push AFTER Despo is 100% convinced Darthe is scum. Suddenly claims that she had Darthe as scum for a long while here. When pressed for her reasons, she gives very weak ones including a contradictory reason about the game picking up, a post where not long before she was complaining about 10 pages of nothing. VERY odd post here prior to Darthe's flip.

Hallia - I felt like she and Leelou were in collusion when defending Leelou's vote on Dawn. She also stood outside of the Darthe lynch, but I am feeling like she is a convenient patsy for Despo.

~~Dice~~ Kaylee - Meh on Dice this game until Kaylee arrived. Too early for me to tell at this point.

Lenlo - I'm not really getting much of a read either way on this cat. Usually more active than this and aside from his D1 banter, I really can't call it. I'd like to see a more updated casing from him.

Verbal - Pushing meta aside since it is allegedly "outdated" I would take this new Verbal as actually doing some scum hunting on D1. This is when I really began to look at NEW-Verb as possible scum. Here, he claims plenty of reasons to go on Darthe, but no one really has anything tangible. This, on the other hand, is good ole fashioned Verby Scumhunting. He might be seeing what I see.

NotBob - First, THIS deserved much more of a laugh than it received. He is not blindly going after one player. He is reading the game like a good scumhunter. Leaning town for this moment.

Krak - Total town read at this point. Posts like this one here are total Krak-a-dile scum hunting awesomeness. If you are scum, you totally got me fooled.

Csarmi - Dawn didn't do much at all except get attacked by Leelou. I was null on this player slot until Salami took over. Came in scumhunting and casing, like his first post here. Gut says Darthe is scum and goes with it here. Then, after his quite believalbe claim as Moiraine, TOTAL TOWN for me.

I would like to hear from a couple people.

Despo - what convinced you that Darthe was scum in your reread? Please link me to the precise post that flipped that switch for you.

Leelou - Which of these following characters is least likely to be in this game? Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwyne, Thom Merrilin, or Gawyn

Everyone else, please remember, just because someone flipped scum doesn't LOCKCLEAR those who pushed their lynch as town.

First off Mynd, all the setup spec is so meh for me. Just looks like you spouting a bunch of words to make it seem like you're contributing, even tho nothing, not a single damn thing you said in that whole giant spoiler, has anything to do with us actually catching scum today.

Second, thank you for the reads list. Altho you're likely trying your damndest to wifom the reads for us, I have utmost confidence I'll be able to pierce through the wifom and find your teammates (unless I've already found them)

Third, BAHAHAHAHA!!!! @ your handling of me over the past few days. First it was you trying to say I could be scum, could be town, but that if I was town I would lead everyone off a cliff. Then it was pretty much handling me as confirmed town, but again, that I would lead town to defeat. Now it's back to trying to act like I'm scum because- "In mafia, sometimes scumbuddies bus one another" which is like duh obviously. It rully is cute :happy:

Third, honestly, I did pretty much know Darthe would flip scum. Now, I HAVE been wrong about Darthe in the past, but when he's scum and I'm town, I am remarkably good at reading him as scum. And I read him as like 99% chance to be scum after my reread.

Lastly, can't be bothered to find the actual quote, but besides tone feel, and his "nothing in the last two pages of merit" comment that gave me early sketchy feelings towards him, the thing that launched my full blown belief in his scummitude was when he tried using the possibility of a Leelou townflip to try and get Verbal lynched. At that point, Leelou was a strong town read for me mainly due to her claim (her behavior after the claim only helped reaffirm my town read of her), so it was pretty obvious to me that Darthe was trying to set up lynches. This locked Darthe in as scum for me, and LOCK CLEARED Verbal.

I have made mention of this several, several times, as have I made mention of other things Darthe did that pinged to me. Just because I didn't constantly push the same case over and over doesn't mean I wasn't confident I would get him lynched, I already knew others had seen some of the same things I saw. I also felt even MOAR confident that he would flip scum when I saw you defending him, considering one of the things I called him out for was when he tried slipping you in as an "obvtown" read with me and TG, even tho you weren't close to obvtown at that point but TG and I were.

Verbal is probably now the most effective person for me to team up with in mafia btw. We have contrasting playstyles that work very well together. Our Hydra pwned, our wolf team wrecked, and in general I think we can even subtly work in tandem to achieve things not immediately clear to others.

Just wanted to get out why I have such a bromance for him lately

I love how Mynd is trying to dump on my character when Wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwombat states in the rules (quoted below) that they won't make much of a difference. And to answer your question, any of them could be in the game. I'm not sure about the other characters, but I am Gawyn.

15. Character claims are allowed. They will not make too much of a difference, however, as mafia have been given fake claims chosen at random from the pool of possible town characters. The only characters guaranteed to be in the game are the scum ones.
