I have had an epiphany

As some of you may or may not know I am a part of a Rocky Horror Picture Show Shadow Cast. Over the recent weeks I have come to the conclusion that rocky sucks and is actually distasteful and vulgar.

When I started I thought rocky was about friendship and acceptance but after being a part of the rocky family for almost 2 years now I can say that it's really about spotlights and sex.

Many of you will know the show. It became a cult classic in the 80s and was one of the first films that included live audience participation as part of a regular show. However, this was a clever marketing ploy and has served to hide the true meaning of rocky horror that is; cheating, sluttiness, lying, incest and sexism.

Throughout the show Brad constantly degrades Janet and is a clear chauvinist. This sexist theme continues through out the film with riff raff shushing Magenta and always claiming control of the situation, finally ending in him becoming the new leader. Rocky is sort after by Janet as a source of protection and sex just because he is male. Even more sexist crap

Janet and Brad also personify the general population in the show and what are we shown though them? That we will all cheat if given half a chance. People complain that same sex marriage will end the sanctity but here is a clear cut example of the ending of marriage bring celebrated in classic film years before Homosexuality was even accepted.

Furthermore Riff raff and Magenta engage in incest several times through out the film. In some cases the audience is expected to call out "incest is best". This is basically brainwashing and will serve no other purpose but to destroy society. They are so blatant about expressing this diabolical act that it becomes accepted and people just laugh it off. Clearly a clever ploy by the writers to justify terrible acts. Society must be protected!

Then comes the free sex. People in this film engage in it constantly with no regard to safe sex or consenting sex. Rocky is clearly raped by Frank minuted after his creation and the show ends with a pool orgy. Neither of these acts are part of normal society but in Rocky horror people just accept it and even mimic it. There is no way this is helping our society or out children. It is just one part of the reason we are where we are now. One of the most famous call backs is to should Slut when Janet appears on screen. People look up to her! Is this really a role model we want in our lives?

Finally the lies are immense. Ive seen this first hand. Half the cast lies and this rubs off! Since joining the shadow cast many people have had to leave because of rumours and lies. this is obviously a direct influence of the show and should never be acceptable

I make a move to abstain from Rocky Horror. this movie is against everything we hold dear and should never be shown again

Who's with me!

I've never liked Rocky Horror. I saw it only once when I was 12 or 13 and (okay it was a bit early) it shocked me a bit and I couldn't and still can't see why it's such a 'classic'. I don't see the point of random orgying and stuff...it unsettled me and even though I didn't have nightmares I definitely didn't want to see it again. I was just "ech" through the whole thing.

I haven't really thought about it in detail ^^ as I lost any interest in that movie after seeing it.

I can see though why there's a cult around it - I guess it represented some kinds of freedom movement in the time it came out. And the whole surreal craziness around it might be appealing to some people - dress up in wacky costumes, whatever. But yeah... can't really see why people worship it.

Only thing good about it is the Time Warp - that song is awesome!

I love Rocky Horror!!!

Ah, man, the songs! The heels! The tap!

The TIM CURRY!!!!

Yeah, I'm a fan. I enjoy the movie as it amuses me greatly and it's got some awesome songs in it. It's a big jump in the history of musicals, and it represents freedom of sex and thought and all that stuff.

Personally, I think it's designed to take the mickey out of the chauvinist attitude, not encourage it, and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone taking it as a serious model for a functioning lifestyle. It's about pansexual aliens, I mean, come on. XD

Yeah, the content isn't exactly stuff you show your kids as an example of a musical, but it's a good representative of the time it was made in due the audience involvement and the cult culture it developed.

But I reckon you're reading too much into it. It's just a bit of fun.

And it has Tim Curry. XD He makes anything alright in my books.

Honestly, I lost interest in it after the Mind Trap. Afterwards, it just seemed weird. I don't see where it

would be misleading though. It pretty much was geared towards a particular type of audience. I don't

think it'd be fair to say it misrepresented anything.

The viewer always has the freedom to change the channel and find much more entertaining things to

watch..........like Operation Repo. *shameless plug*

I think Tim Curry went into hiding afterwards and was freaked out at the fan reaction too.

We didn't see him until like Home Alone 2 or Roseanne years later which is a shame because

he's a funny actor.

You had links and everything! I didn't know some of those other ones. I read where he wouldn't

answer questions about Rocky Horror until recently. I liked the Batman reference.

He just had an awesome voice. Dunston Check in was another one! He was good in that movie!

YES! *nods* Clue was awesome! I did not know of all the things he did in the 1980's but I just read an

interview he did back when I first discovered Rocky Horror and he was like, "The reaction from the fans

was a little overwhelming. I don't really wear that stuff in real life so take it easy." I thought it was funny!

Well, after the Mind Warp, which I think we all can say was kinda cool, and you seen this elevator coming

down and then just the shear audacity of it was initially hilarious because you're expecting a lady and it's a dude.

It's like that Aerosmith song or something. That part was funny due to the shock value but I was over it eventually. Haha!

You're like whoa....wait a minute. Time Out!
