It´s time for a new discussion and this time it will be on a topic that many of you have requested - video games. I have invited some guests that will take care of it all. Let me introduce - Red, SinisterDeath and, our very own, Xamol Na.

Red has been on DM since 2008. She is moderator in the General Discussion board and part of the Aiel, ACW, Wolfkin and White Tower. Aside from frequenting the entertainment section she post a lot in the Debates & Discussions board. We all know her as the Bulldog of Mafia - she both plays and run her own mafia games. Red loves video games and can talk about them for hours.

SinisterDeath has been a DM member since 2002. He was a moderator for six years in the Debates & Discussion board. He has been active in the Seachan and ACW sections. Currently he spends a lot of time in a Raid Guild in the mmorpg Rift and plays Diablo 3 almost every waking hour.

Xamol Na is our own English muffin. She is a member of the BT and ACW. Ever since she played Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy at a friends house as a kid she has been obsessed with video games. Her favourite console is XBox 360. Xamol has recently started a discussion in the Quiet Room.

Let us all welcome our guests. I´m so happy that they are here because I stopped playing video games when they invented 3D. I hope to learn a lot.

There will be different discussion topics and they will go on for the whole month. As soon as the threads have been posted I will add a link to them in this post.

July 2 - 6: Action and Strategy games - Red

July 7 - 11: Shooting games - SD

July 12 - 16: Platform and Adventure games - Red

July 17 - 21: Role Playing games - SD

July 22 - 26: Video game addiction + Does video games lead to violence? - Xamol

Rules: Be polite. No personal attacks. We are talking Video games and subjects related to it - nothing else. Our guests are mods and therefore you should listen to them.

Red will soon start our first discussion thread. Hope you will all enjoy!

- What gamming devices do you currently own?

currently hooked up and functional. 360, Wii, DS light, PS3. packed up in boxes - Atari, NES, SNES, Sega, PS2, Xbox, DS, & PS One (Portable).

- what was yoru fav game as a child?

Little Nemo: Dream Master

587417_46945_front.jpg

- what age did you start gamming?

we got an NES in 1989; so i was 4

- whats everyone favorite console to play games one, and least favorite? why?

i favor the PS3, but Bubba prefers the 360. we have the old school PS3 thats still backwards compatable, so i like the verstility of the console, feel it has better graphics and picture quality and love the fact its also a blue-ray player.

least fav is PC. i prefer using controllers versus mouse and keyboard, and liek gamming ont he couch or bed rather than at a desk in a chair. its also got to do with the screen as well as interacting with others; i prefer if i multi-game, to do so with people phsycially in the same room.

- whats everyone currently playing?

well i was playing Assasins Creed 1. but ... i went out and bought the Game of the Year edition of Arkham City for the added bundle packs and found it didn't convert my saved data from the other version so now i get to roll through Arkham City for a 3rd time

i'm also playing Skyward Sword too, but its a love hate relaitonship with Zelda, i can't just sit and play striaght through, i've got to take it in chunks otherwise i get way too agrevated at the game. with Twilight Princess i got stuck for at a spot (escorting the Zelda Prince ) broke a controller strap from throwing the controller across the room and didn't play the game for almost a year.

- what next game are you most looking forward to in the next few years?

Assasins Creed 3, Darksiders 2 and God of War: Ascension  EPICNESS!!!! i walso sorely want a vita for Assasins Creed: Liberation. being that i live in the Mississippi Delta area, i WANT that game. stupid Ubisoft

- what techonology do you think will be incoperated ot the next gens?

i'm thinking their goign to be going the route that Ubisoft did with Assasins Creed brotherhood; incoperating companion style apps for facebook and moble devices to utilize the new "Cloud" technology. i also think we'll see console compatability for Xbox Live and PSN users on multi-console games. i also hope that the start doing more along the lines of Skyrim as far as open world size. the detail and expansizeness of that world is breath taking and that alone is a reason to own the game. i hope to see more games along those lines come out.

another thing i'd liek to see them go back towards is story mode console co-op.

- whats your thoughts on 3D gamming?

tbh, i dont' care for it.

- what genre do you tend to spend the most time playing?

Action Adventure RPG

First off I want to say I'm a gamer through and through. Always have been. Half my wardrobe are video game related shirts. So I'm excited for the discussions this month.

- What gamming devices do you currently own?

NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Game Boy, Gameboy Color, GBA, Xbox 360, PS3. I used to be a Nintendo fanboy but that has diminished over the years and I'm catching up on PS2 classics occasionally.

- what was yoru fav game as a child?

Earthbound.

- what age did you start gamming?

Um... before I can remember. My Mom tells the story of me playing Super Mario Bros. when I was 3 while laying upside down on the couch looking in a mirror.

- whats everyone favorite console to play games one, and least favorite? why?

Touch call. Retro, SNES because games were made with so much heart back then. Modern 360 because the infrastructure and social aspects are the best.

- whats everyone currently playing?

Shadow of the Colossus HD

- what next game are you most looking forward to in the next few years?

Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed 3... I haven't seen a whole lot on the ticket that's gotten me super excited recently. Nintendo doesn't have any major IPs announced really, and there's only so much New Super Mario I can take.

- what techonology do you think will be incoperated ot the next gens?

Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain persistent connection will be what is going to happen. Discs will go away entirely. I'm not a fan of this, but realistically it is going to happen. Also they will become media boxes rather than game consoles.

- whats your thoughts on 3D gaming?

Useless

- what genre do you tend to spend the most time playing?

RPGs, Action, Adventure

Is this discussion open to anyone? I cannot recall if i officially joined the BT or not and figured this would be a good place to start. lol

- What gamming devices do you currently own?

XBOX 360, Wii. Boxed away are PS2 and SNES. Both have seen much better days. Not sure if my poor PS is even functioning. I need new cables for my SNES and it should be fine

- what was yoru fav game as a child?

Showin my age here lol. My first electronic was a computer Santa gave the family. The Tandy 1000

hahaha, I know! I was like 8 years old. My favorite game will always be Space Quest!

after that it would have to be Final Fantasy 3 and 4. Greatest RPGs ever. Like B said up there, just seems like story had so much more heart. I have had a conversation with my gaming friends a lot about htis. It seems the better the graphics have become the more the story seems to fail. I just seemed to become more involved with games back then.

- what age did you start gamming?

I didn't really start gaming until I got my OWN system. It was a PS One. All about Resident Evil, Grand Turismo and Final Fantasy VII. I think I was 13 - 14.

- whats everyone favorite console to play games one, and least favorite? why?

Favorite is the 360. Simply because of the fact that all my friends got one before me and I loved the idea of co-op gaming. I have always liked PS more because they seemed to carry the best RPGs and JRPGs. But, I let them go to play with my friends and because of that I haven't had my JRPG itch scratched in a lonnnnnng time. I have to ask to? What really was so bad with turn based RPGs? I would definitely buy up a turn based RPG if I thought the story was good. I miss it.

Least favorite? This is not because of the games but solely because of the controllers. I could not stand the controller for the Nintendo 64 or the Sega Dreamcast. Those two are equally tied for my least favorite systems.

- whats everyone currently playing?

Right now I am playing Kingdoms of Amalur and Dead Space. That game is FUBAR yo. I haven't dropped this many f-bombs in a long time lol.

- what next game are you most looking forward to in the next few years?"

The missus and I are planning on getting the family a PS3 for x-mas. I know. A lil late. But, my brother owns one and, Gods bloody willing, they may be ending the Kingdom Hearts RPG soon. And I MUST finish that.

- what techonology do you think will be incoperated ot the next gens?

Now this is kind of contradictory with what I said about not liking the paddles for the dreamcast and 64. I love the Wii U paddle. I like the options open to games that having your own personal widget on hand. I can see it used for a lot of different things. That, and it will give full screen gaming. All your life, stats, etc, will be displayed on the paddle leaving your TV screen completely uninterrupted. Just the game play is seen. It's huge, yes, but I would love to be able to remote control my spy drone, or hack into a computer system to pilot my failing space ship before I crash. Equally excited I am for more voice command games through the connect. I cant wait to start the Mass Effect series so that I cna control my NPS in ME 3 with voice commands. Sounds crazy fun.

- whats your thoughts on 3D gamming?

Way too rushed. I think, maybe down the line, it could be cool, but i think that right now they are pushing too hard. Rushing things. Needs to be developed more before they try to utilize it

- what genre do you tend to spend the most time playing?

Lately shooters and action adventure

Dead Space is insane. Didn't like 2 as much.

Mass Effect voice controls on kinect are fun and actually super useful, but I'd always forget the power names so I ended up using it almost exclusively for med-packs and ammo-modifiers.

- What gamming devices do you currently own?

Main room, XBOX360 and Wii. smaller TV, XBOX and Gamecube.

- what was yoru fav game as a child?

I loved to play this game on my intellivision console. I forget the name. I think it was nightstalker. it was a maze dungeon game. you had to run around and shoot the bad guys. The catch was your gun only had 5 shots. then you had to avoid the robots and go get another gun. The oppenents got tougher and tougher until eventually the robots chasing you were at times invisible. The toughest part about it was there was no save. You had to start from the beginning every time.

- what age did you start gamming?

Does Pong count? We got that when I was about 5 i think. My family had Pong, Atari, Intellivision, The first console that was mine was a sega genesis. I guess I was about 12. sonic of all shapes and sizes. bunch of other games some good some not so much. First one I bought with my own money was an original Playstation. Sypro was the bomb. And Crash games. and some other ones.

- whats everyone favorite console to play games one, and least favorite? why?

I prefer my 360. that is the one I have the most games for. and it has my favorites. I do like the Wii for the motion controller. Playing golf that way is fun.

- whats everyone currently playing?

I just recently got LEGO Batman 2. I like me any chance to blow up some blocks. I don't really have time to play right now but it would be what I would be playing if I had time. That and Forza.

- what next game are you most looking forward to in the next few years?"

The new Fable. The last wasn't that great so I am hoping that they fix it cause it was fun before it became all about money. Possible LotR LEGO game as they are selling pieces now so it could happen.

- what techonology do you think will be incoperated ot the next gens?

no clue. I just enjoy the new stuff as it comes out.

- whats your thoughts on 3D gamming?

It will be good one day. I will wait until it is ready.

- what genre do you tend to spend the most time playing?

Platformers and driving games are where I spend most of my time.

- What gaming devices do you currently own?

Playstation 2, PS3, and a Gameboy Color, somewhere.

- what was your fav game as a child?

Ape Escape was my first video game, I loved that one. Plus Crash Bandicoot, of course. Then when I discovered FFVII at about age 13, I was hooked forever :wub:

- what age did you start gaming?

11

- what's everyone favorite console to play games on, and least favorite? why?

Playstation is my favorite, always loved the controls and the graphics. Least favorite is xbox, because I hate the controllers, and I hate Microsoft with a flaming passion.

- what's everyone currently playing?

Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX, and of course my ever present Triple Triad online.

- what next game are you most looking forward to in the next few years?

Final Fantasy XIII-3, of course.

- what technology do you think will be incorporated in the next gens?

True virtual reality games. I think a VR FF would be absolutely badass awesome.

- what's your thoughts on 3D gaming?

3D movies give me a headache, so I think 3D gaming would too, unfortunately.

- what genre do you tend to spend the most time playing?

RPGs, for sure. Unless you count my Triple Triad, then strategy, cus it's a card game.

- What gamming devices do you currently own?

NES

SNES

PSX

PS2 Original First Release Fatty still works

PS2 Slim

PS3

PC

ect

- what was yoru fav game as a child?

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen

See, I had a semi-late start with games. When I had the NES, everyone else had the SNES, when I finally got an SNES, the N64 was the thing to have. And by the time I had the Ps1, it wasn't to long away that the PS2/Gamecube/ect all launched. But I would still have been in the 'child category' come the Ps1 , and Legacy Of Kain Blood Omen.

To me, its by far, and to this day, the best Vampire Game, Ever. Its also one of the very first video games, that you play an Anti-Hero.

- what age did you start gamming?

Dunno to be honest. Its hard to date things accurately, as I mentioned the late start on some of the consoles. I had an Atari for godsakes, even though they were already old by that days standards! But I would have to say, at least around 5 or 6ish. Maybe younger.

- whats everyone favorite console to play games one, and least favorite? why?

Console = Ps3. I like, Red, have the Backwards compatible version, so I can still do all my ps1, ps2, and Ps3 games all on that one, awesome console.

but, I do Perfer the PC more. At least, for some game types.

Final Fantasy for instance, would suck IMO on the PC

- whats everyone currently playing?

Was playing D3.. Now i'm getting bored with it. Theres a reason you need to have some semblence of progression in those kind of games. Stone Walling players, for to long, feeding the boredum? Not good.

PvP patch whenver it comes out should help with that.. But, Blizzard really needs to step up there A game on content releaseing. ITs sad, when an upstart company (Trion) can pump out more content, in 1 month, than blizzard can in 6!

Thats the other game I was actively playing... Still trying to get back into it, but, after some RL stuff, (plus the miserable heat) its just hard to get back into games that bore me.

- what next game are you most looking forward to in the next few years?

Thats ... tough, cause not many are actually interesting me these days!

I'm stil lwaiting for FF Versus XIII, but.. that may never happen.

I want to see EQ:NEXT (Everquest 3?)

I also want to see the World of Darkness MMORPG.

The elderscrolls MMO of course. (At least, just to try it out.)

X:Rebirth (hopefuly sometime this year)

But I really can't think of anythign else that erally interests me that scoming out for.. any console, pc or otherwise.

- what techonology do you think will be incoperated ot the next gens?

I reallydon't care about the so called Ps4, or the Xbox 720, I feel they are going to fail.

Infact, i'm calling it here.

This next gen (the one we don't have out yet) is going to be the LAST major console generation.

I predict, After that generation is released, and a couple of years later, STEAM for the PC is going to release its own Console, And not only that, IT'll share its services with PC's.

Meaning, all you need to do, is either

A) buy there console version,

or

B) buy a PC that has the steam logo on it, saying any game you buy on steam, can play on that pc, or on the console.

I also belieive, Steam is going to transcend consoles, by making the worlds first Modular Console. Meaning, if you want better performance? You buy an upgrade, All you do, is pop out the old part, from some kind of expansion bay, and put in the new part. This means, that this console. Could effectively have a 20 year run.

And even then, all they would have to do, is have a version 2.0 come out, with games that are certified to only run on 2.0 specs or equiovlent pc's!

Thats my predction!

Oh, and cloud gamings going to get far more prevelant, but only after we get a national average of 50MB Connections across the nations, (with at least 10MB for rural areas)

- whats your thoughts on 3D gameing?

3d as in, that tech thats been around since the playstation/n64?

Or you talking sterostopic 3D?

If its the first... Uhh. not much to think about. Its here.

If its the sterocopic one.

Well, it does have potential.

Avengers was the VERY first movie I saw in 3d, And there were things they can do, not only with SUB TITLES, but just the UI in general, that could be very usefuil in 3D. But otehr things? Not so much.

Hell, I'd settle for just Subs & UI in 3D in video games jsut for that interesting pop-out effect.

- what genre do you tend to spend the most time playing?

MMORPG time wise.

RPG & 4x RTS (x3 games) for time.

Everything else, I give around 20-100 hours befor eI get bored and try something else.

- What gamming devices do you currently own?

PC (with emulation capacity for Game Cube and PS2), XBOX, XBOX 360, PS3, DS

- what was yoru fav game as a child?

This is a toss up between Super Mario Bros (and all the sequels) and Pokemon.

- what age did you start gamming?

I don't remember the exact age I started gaming, but I think it was when I was either 3 or 4. My first system was the NES and I remember the huge cartridges you had to put in to play the games.

- whats everyone favorite console to play games one, and least favorite? why?

I started out on the XBOX 360 for the longest time and never even considered buying a PS3, but now that I did, I think that I like the PS3 better. It's got more of the kind of games that I like and it's also easier (for me anyway) to go online with. Both appeal to me in different ways - and due to the console exclusive games out there.

- whats everyone currently playing?

Record of Agarest War series (1, Zero, and 2)

Tales of Graces f

Final Fantasy (the original - that I have no clue what I'm supposed to be doing due to a lack of story prompting)

Civilization V (the expansion pack - something about conquering the world as Austria and Sweden just makes me happy)

- what next game are you most looking forward to in the next few years?

In the next few years?

Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Tales of Xillia (I will be VERY upset with Namco they don't localize it to American audiences)

Other than those, I don't see a lot of new games that I really want at this time. Maybe when they come closer to release, I'll consider more carefully.

If we're talking for rerelease over the PSN classics,

For PS2:

Kingdom Hearts (my roommate lost my copy - I was quite upset, as it's the only game I really wanted for the console! And I never got the chance to beat it, but he and his friend did. *grumble*)

For PS1:

Final Fantasy III & IV (the only ones I need to complete my collection - unless they're already out there?)

Suikoden II (I have the first one and I liked it, and I've played parts of 3, 4, and 5 - so this one's the only one missing)

Star Ocean II (&1?) - I've played 4 and liked and gotten into 3.

Tales of Phantasia (Ok, really ANYTHING from Namco titled Tales of... for any console generation)

- what techonology do you think will be incoperated ot the next gens?

This is hard to answer. Cloud gaming has been discussed already, but I think it's infeasible until everyone has access to a somewhat fast Internet connection. Motion sensing has already been incorporated into this generation, but I think that they may try to improve upon it for the next generation release. But even if they do, you still aren't going to playing some games with motion sensing controls.

- whats your thoughts on 3D gamming?

They have 3D gaming? Sounds gimmicky.

- what genre do you tend to spend the most time playing?

RPGs of all types, be they action, turn-based, real time, strategy, you name it. After that, strategy games and sports games. I'm into FIFA and NHL.

Apparently I started gaming late in life, lol. I didn't start til I was 11 cus my parents never thought of it, I guess. Then my uncle gave me a PS1 with Ape Escape and Crash Bandicoot 2 for my 11th birthday, and I was hooked on gaming forever.

I read an article that said the average age of the gamer is 37, and 47% of all gamers are female.

Yea.. 4 is out there for the playstation. 3 however, doesn't exist on the playstation, only nintendo. (bastards!)

I FF4 is packed with another awesome game...

Chrono Trigger

If you haven't played Chrono Trigger.. you really should. Its the only Turn Based RPG that gives FF any challange.
