As is usual for January, the theme is a look back at songs from the previous year, as well as a look at artists who are expected to hit the big time in 2012. And to start with, using the Official Chart Company's top 20 Singles of 2011 as a guide, Changed the Way You Kiss Me by Example was picked and ended up being voted a "No Tune". This week, I am looking at an artist who had a massive year in 2012, and is probably going to have a strong 2012 as well.
The artist I have picked this week is Jessie J, who was voted as being the Sound of 2011 in the annual BBC music survey. She currently sits at the top of the UK singles chart with her song Domino.
It is the fifth single from her début album Who You Are. It was released in late August 2011 in Australia. However, in the UK, the song is not going to be released until late February 2012, but has managed to top the charts on downloads alone.
When I first started listening to the song, I was convinced I was listening to a song sung by Katy Perry (do listen to Teenage Dream). And this is something that the critics have mentioned. That hasn't distracted critics from giving the song positive reviews. The sound and tone of Jessie's performance have been praised, and the song could be Jessie J's biggest success in America.
Despite sounding like a Katy Perry song, I do feel there is more slightly more to the song. I feel her vocals are slightly stronger. As a result, I give Domino by Jessie J the vote of TUNE.
For those of you who haven't heard the piece, here is a link to YouTube.
The poll closes in a week's time, which is Monday 23rd January 2012. So make sure you vote now before the time for the latest "Tune or No Tune" poll finishes!
Also, if you want to suggest a tune for "Tune or No Tune", do not hesitate to drop me a PM.
