Today is human rights day!! You can get a quick idea about what the day is about and where it originated here.

So, our celebration will be a discussion about what changes in human rights have changed since the UN started Human Rights Day. What stands out of the history books for you?

Human Rights.

What stands out?

I was born in the late 1970s.

In my lifetime, the Berlin Wall was torn down, Communism in Russia died, Apartheid ended, America has fought the current "War on Terror" to bring down the Taliban and the regieme of Saddam Hussein.

Women's sports are becoming more recognized. Women are gaining higher educational gains, more professional careers, and starting to close the gender-wage gap.

Also, women have increasingly gained more positions of power and authority across the globe.

Some of the MAJOR violations of Human Rights still need work.

There is still a problem with worldwide poverty and diseases. Education of some of the world's "marginal" people is extremely poor.

The sex industry violates the basic human rights of children, women, and men.

Anti-prostitution rhetoric often villanizes the woman without harming the reputation of the man (unless he's famous, and then, only for a few weeks).

Even in the USA, Racism and sexism still present major difficulties.
