DRAGONMOUNT

A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Hidee there!

Recommended Posts

Hi there. It's been a long while, but Mirshann pulled me out from under my rock. Well, for a spell anyways. I'm hoping I can reconnect with you guys and try to stay at least moderately active, however, my workload has just increased by exponentials of 10, so I actually don't have much down time here anymore. I'm not even blogging! And if you remember me for my blogs, you Know that's serious!

So what have I been up to?

Well, I'm still fostering cats although I have decided this will be the last year to work with my current rescue and I'm well over due for a fostering hiatus. I've stopped doing admin for them and I'm not taking any more cats after these I have now are adopted. Instead, I'm boarding cats now. Due to the economy I've been approached by several people looking to board their cats at dirt cheap prices so they don't have to put them up for adoption. These people have had to move in with their parents or friends and the people they are moving in with can't have cats. I've had a steady run since Spring of last year. I don't know how long it will last, but it's a nice little side gig.

My dog, Maizy, whom some of you oldies may remember as the dog with the daisy costume from a very old siggie, is 15 this year. We're having a rough go of it. She's on her last year, this Spring may even be her last season, we'll see. She's just got all kinds of old lady issues. So most of my time at home is taken up with keeping her comfy and loved. And staying centered for myself because I get really frustrated with the situation sometimes.

And I'm finally riding horses again! Last year I rode draft horses with the joust at Scarborough Faire. I'll be doing it again this year and hopefully every year after that this company has a contract. It's a pretty fun experience. It's HOT at the end of the season, but the horses definitely make up for that.

I'm still costuming. I'm working on stuff for Scarby and I'll be at All-Con in Dallas this month and my local costumers guild has a ton of fun events lined up for this year. So I stay pretty busy. Still. Hahaha!

Anyways, What have I missed around here? How's everybody doing?

You never know what you're going to find when you start turning over random rocks.

Sorry to hear about your ailing doggy. It's always sad when a much loved pet gets old and can't do much anymore.

I love that you're helping people with their pets though. I hope it turns out to be something that is beneficial for everyone involved.

Now the Scarborough Faire....Is that the one outside of Magnolia, Texas? Or am I confusing that with a different Ren Faire?

Hello Aes Sedai *curtsies*

I'm a young Novice from New Zealand. Pleased to meet you

WHOOOOO for the horse riding!!!! I have a clydesdale mare (and a young Pinto/Arab stallion) myself who I ride daily, but sadly I live far too isolated on the South Island, the only jousting I know of is at Lake Taupo on the North Island so I can't participate in such events...but I definitely plan on visiting one of these in the future!!

By the way, I am not exaclty sure what you mean by costuming. Do you make costumes etc? If yes, do you have costumes for sale, or make them on commission for customers? Do you have a website too?

I love film-making, it's my free time hobby, and I'm planning something a bit bigger to make in the summer holidays. I'm interested in costume sources I can get in contact with...

Sorry about your dog. My clydie mare is near her late teens, and I can feel she's settling down. It's a great change to become accustomed too, and I hope she will spend the rest of her time with us happily.

It's great to have you back, dear lady - hopefully as often as time allows.

Sorry to hear about the doggie :( ... at least he is being well taken care of and obviously loved very much.

I'm not sure where Magnolia, TX is. It's in Waxahachie off of 35.

Oh yes, helping pets helps me. In more ways than one. I got into fostering for, well, Dragonmount actually! Haha, it was volunteer month and I needed something to do. I just never stopped. The fostering was therapy for me for a long while when I was going through some tough stuff. Now the boarding actually helps pay for Maizy's care, so it all comes around full circle.

Yes, I make costumes. Currently I just do it for myself. I've made a couple of costumes on commission, but I'm not prepared to do that on a regular basis with my current work load. Mostly right now I'm costuming for the renaissance faire this Spring, but I make historical and movie reproductions for conventions and events here in my hometown. I'm part of a costumers guild here and we try our best to have at least one costumed event at least once per month. so there's Always something to work on new costumes for! I don't have a dedicated website for my costumes since I don't do commissions, but I do post them on my blog and on Facebook. I don't have much time to blog these days, so most pics will be up on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/maggiesmithdfw Blog is here: http://littlemeinthebigd.blogspot.com/

What part of film-making are you doing? I was involved in short films for a while. I was a script supervisor and I was starting to learn how to be a 1st AD. I'm going to have a piddly little make-up credit on one thing I worked on, but that was just for one day when we were missing our make-up person. I did a Terrible job, hahaha!!!! I haven't worked on any costuming for a film yet, but there's a possibility I may consult on design for a period 1930's short film. They're still fund raising and I haven't heard anything back yet. Could be a while before they're ready to start.

What kind of info are you looking for as far as sources go? I'm happy to help you in any way that I can, just let me know what you need. If you're looking to get in the industry as a costumer, I can put you in touch with a friend of mine who is applying for her Union status here in the US so she can finally get some decent work. She has done a few small things and is on the brink of breaking in to get regular work, the union was the trouble. She may know people or have resources for New Zealand. It's worth asking that's for sure.

Thanks. yeah, it's a tough transition. Just keep taking the best care you can of your Clyde. It's all we can do and the more we focus on that, the better off they are no matter what the situation.

Welcome back!I don't know you but I'm a Novice...from Canada/Waste  Anyway, welcome back and who doesn't love horse backriding? Seriously?

I know right? I haven't ridden in several years and it's so wonderful to get back to it even if it is only for two months out of the year.

Haha, yup! Whenever I'm on LJ (which comes and goes seasonally =p) I always see Raeyn's posts! I feel like we're more LJ buddies than DM buddies, Rae! We need to change that. *Charis moves her big butt to sit on both Mendorah AND Raeyn's laps, yay!!*
