Cold wind

A cold wind blew across the Aryth Ocean, moving the ship Waterskimmer as Luric look towards the horizon. It had been a long voyage from Tear, but the Windfinder Aldarosa din Seelyn Far Eye had kept the ship from the worst of the storms. Luric was certain they would land in Aile Dashar, just as Sailmistress Callion din Harbash Port Finder had planned.

Luric was the Cargomaster of Waterskimmer and was in charge of the cargo they had picked up in Tear. The ale should sell well, along with the most of the cargo, but that was not what worried Luric. The man he had met had paid well to transport his cargo. Luric was not to tell Callion about it, nor was he to sell it when he reached Aile Dashar. The man had said it was important, and must not be seen by eye on the ship.

Luric turned from the bow of the ship and begin walking the deck. Other men worked the ropes and pullies of the ship, and he could see Aldarosa in the stern directing the winds.

He hated Aldarosa, just about as much as he hated Callion. Both women always kept him from running the cargo the way he wanted to run it, and they ruled his life with an iron fist when they landed. Luric continued towards the stairs going to the haul of the ship, glancing around to make sure no one watched him.

Climbing down the dusty stairs Luric wondered, not for the first time, why Callion didn't ever clean down here. She said it was because it was his job to keep the haul clean, but since it was her ship, he didn't see it that way.

At the bottom of the stairs Luric wandered through the barrels, boxes, swords, axes, and sacks. Luric finally came to the back of the haul, where he had hid the object the man had wanted transported. He moved aside one of the sacks and pulled out the wrapped object.

"Luric! I thought I told you to be up on deck?!" Callion's voice grated in Luric's ears, as he quickly stood up and turned to her. "What is that you have in your hand?"

"It's nothing Callion, I'll be back on deck in just a while."

Callion's face turned to a scowl. "Do not act like I have no power over you. You know that not to be true. I told you to be on the deck, and now you've disobeyed me... delebartly."

"You make to much of this Callion."

Callion stomped across the haul to Luric and stretched out her hand. "Give it to me, Luric."

Luric handed Callion the object with a sigh, and walked past her. "Do you know what this is?" Callion said astonished. "How did you get this?"

Still staring at the object, Callion didn't notice Luric picking up one of the axes. A long blade, like a butcher's, came down half the length of the shaft. As Callion continued to stare at the object, Luric lifted the axe and burried it in Callion's back.

Blood splattered out from the deep cut and covered the sacks and boxes in deep black drops. Callion slowly turned, horror on her face, and finally fell to the floor.

Luric stood over her body, bent down, and picked up the object. The Great Lord would ask for many more deaths to come, Luric was sure of that.
