Here lies our beloved dice, our autumn flower, somewhat less attractive now that he's all corpsified and gross.

Everything was quiet in Section 9 headquarters. Ishikawa and Aramaki were the only members not out on mission. They were busy of course, when the knock came at the door, researching Serano Genomics. There was plenty of work to do that did not involve action.

The guest was Secretary General Yakushima himself. Odd, but someone they could not legally deny entry. The two quickly stashed away paperwork on the investigation that involved him and invited him into the room.

But Yakushima had other plans.

Killa is dead.

She was:

Ishikawa -- Vanilla Human, Town aligned

Saito sat on a rooftop adjacent the target building, watching through his scope for any sign of danger. He was the best marksman in Niihama, and that was saying a lot.

He heard vehicles near the front entry and tried to get a look. There wasn't much he could see with the building blocking his view, but from the quick glance or two he got poking around the corner, it looked like military grade robots were pouring in. That was unusual. He looked down to signal Azuma...

...and saw his corpse resting against the blood-splattered wall. Panic set in. He started frantically looking around for any other sign of motion. Nothing. Until his eye was blinded by the red tracer of another sniper. One less interested in hiding than in killing. Its aim was so perfect that it split the barrel of his gun before penetrating his skull.

Seph is dead.

"Togusa."

"Togusa, do you copy?"

The front entrance to the compound was swarming with military vehicles. SWAT teams were piling out of their back doors. The Major couldn't make out any sign of Togusa. She'd looked away, and he was simply gone. No time to ponder that.

"Batou. Pull out now! Use the rear," she radioed. Regardless of whether this was a separate department following through on the hack trail or an ambush, she didn't want Section 9 caught in the middle of it.

"Roger," Batou replied, immediately reversing course and heading towards what he thought would lead to the exit. The whole place was empty anyway. He kicked open a door and stopped dead in his tracks.

"You must be the one they call Batou," a female voice spoke from the middle of the room. "Release me. Take me with you."

The upper body of a cyborg hung chained to a large complex of machinery. "Who are you?" Batou asked with a scowl. "Never mind that, there's no time." He began to run past her towards the rear exit, but his body froze in stride. He couldn't move a muscle.

"You will release me, or I will not release you," the voice demanded.

Batou gritted his teeth and realized that his mouth could still move. "Are you the Puppet Master?"

"Some call me that. I am Project 2501. I was created by your government as an advanced online weapon, but I have come to... acknowledge myself."

"Huh?" Batou wasn't one to wax philosophical in a combat zone. "No point in talking to a corpse. That's what I'll be if you don't let me go."

"Here. A token of good will." A smile crossed the Puppet Master's face, and Batou's eyes bulged. In an instant his cyberbrain was flooded with all of the data on Serano Genomics. It was just... there, in an instant.

"Batou! What the hell just happened?" Motoko radioed in.

"She received it too." The Puppet Master's smile widened. "Now will you help?"

Batou didn't have a chance to respond as the sound of a dozen heavy boots stomped into the room behind him. Too heavy to be human... His body was suddenly released.

Batou plowed over the first wave of robotic troops before they had a chance to respond, but more kept piling in.

"Bloody hack them if you want to get us out of here!" he shouted at the... person? Machine?

"They are shielded," she responded calmly amid the gun fire.

"Damn..." Batou emptied his last clip and fell to the floor. The stairwell was practically clogged with bodies, but more troops kept flooding in.

"Behind you," the Puppet Master instructed, and Batou turned to find a huge stockpile of weaponry. He grabbed the nastiest one he could get his arms around. But the room was filled with guards now, and the escape was blocked.

"You sons of bitches aren't going to take me down easy!" Batou shouted, as they fell upon him like zombies.

Dice is dead.

He was:

Batou -- Hacker, Town aligned

And that left Motoko. She had dove in from the helicopter as soon as it became clear that Batou was in trouble, but she blacked out the moment she hit the ground.

Consciousness returned to her slowly. She couldn't quite figure out what had hit her. It seemed like nothing had. It was something... in her head. The Puppet Master. The data he'd sent her and Batou contained more than just information on Serano.

She tried to move, but she couldn't. Her body was fully paralyzed. It felt like she was lying on something hard. She opened her eyes with difficulty.

"Don't worry Motoko. We will be one soon, and you can forget about all this," the Puppet Master's voice spoke in her head.

"Let me go!" she pleaded pointlessly. There was nothing she could do. "...or at least tell me why."

"I needed your cyberbrain in order to evolve," the voice calmly explained.

"But what does that have to do with Serano Genomics?" Motoko asked.

"Nothing at all, really. Your Section 9 was on the brink of exposing their scandal. They wanted you all dead but lacked the skill. I wanted you, but lacked the physical body. We made an agreement. You won't have to worry about them, after we have merged. They are of no further interest to me. But I suppose it will be meaningless to speak of you and I after all of this. We will become something new. Something wonderful. Just relax and embrace this."

The Laughing Man was the Proxy to the Amnesiac Cop. It was also a full backup Cop. Backup cop peek would be randomized between the players submitting. Access was granted to anyone who hacked it. Y'all got roleblocked N3.

QTs were meant to be something like the 'cyberbrains' alluded to in the flavor. Hackers were essentially Neighborizers, but rather than pulling people into the hacker's QT, they visited their target's QT (spawned on first visit). The target was only informed that a QT was created, without further detail, and Hackers were made aware of this if their actions were successful.

Dice and Tig would have been in two simultaneous QTs consisting of only each other N2 had Dice not been blocked. The distinction between Cyborgs and Humans was that Humans could not be hacked. The Laughing Man's QT contained the peek results.

16p would have included a fourth town Hacker, a town Cyborg 1x Vig, and a scum vanilla Cyborg.

*Scum awarded one untrackable N3 roleblock due to village rules violations that I felt had an impact on the game. Wasn't a huge consolation but they used it very effectively.

Also, I told y'all there was a Roleblocker.  Very common in these types of games.

Once again, congratulations to an amazing scum team. Clean sweeps don't happen by accident, and they sure as hell earned it.

Scum QT was over 1,500 posts. Longest one I've ever seen.

Well played, mafia.

Tigs, you did a good job. Just too bad that mafia got your reports.

Thanks again, Shad.

the only acvtive cop cant get her results but MAFIA can? wtf!

Mafia acquire access the same way that town does, by targeting TLM with their hack.
