Just because you've never heard of the role doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And roles are always being made up. 

 

The 2 roles is odd, but who knows how crazy the mechanics are?

An Amnesiac Cop functions as a normal Cop, but does not receive the results of its investigations. Those investigation results are sent to another (unknown) player. This has been commonly subverted by making the unknown recipient a Mafioso or a Serial Killer.

Guarding Daito was not the Major's dream job. He was, after all, probably embroiled in a conspiracy theory to undermine the Laughing Man investigation. That's what the signs suggested, anyway, and if protecting major public officials was a part of Kusanagi's job description, it did sometimes place her in an awkward position.

 

But security was security. Terrorists don't solve crimes, they cause them. If the Laughing Man wanted to knock off his threats and come clean to Section 9 with evidence against Serano Genomics, that would be a different story.

 

Daito had such a smug look on his face when Section 9 walked in. He had to be hiding something. He'd probably been told they caused the leak, too, and here they were protecting him. It was frustrating. Government work often was.

 

 

But when Daito's personal bodyguards were suddenly hacked and the assassination attempt began, everyone was caught off guard. The idea of Daito's entire private security being infiltrated had not even crossed their minds. No one had seen this level of hacking before. Paz ate the first bullet, straight through the heart.
