Chapters 12-17 of Knife of Dreams are the topic of discussion. As always, during our discussions we go into all the books of the Wheel of Time series, from the prequel New Spring through Knife of Dreams, so if you haven’t finished your first read-through, you may want to come back to these podcasts when you have, as THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. The team once again sends thanks to editor Spencer for a job well done. Listen Now:

the podscast simees to stop in the middle
I’m only getting the 1st 1/2 of the show as well … hopefully you are aware of the issue and working on a fix.
Thanks for all the time and effort all of you put into this podcast; you do an amazing job and I love listening.
Merry Christmas to you all!
Weird – I’ll see if I can figure out the problem. Thanks for letting us know and Merry Christmas!!
Merry Christmas to all. I had no problems with my download from itunes.
Podcast worked fine for me, thanks & happy boxing day
How do you suggest a topic? I wanted to talk about ta’veren. We know that Rand, Mat and Perrin are… But who else might be? Of course, it’s possible that Brigitte is because she USUALLY is but the fact that she was pulled out of the world of dreams instead of being born into the pattern may nullify this… however just being pulled out of the world of dreams may have been a wielding of the wheel to move her out of the world like STAT.
Mostly I’m interested in discussing the matters of Egween… Is the pattern not weaving it’s self around her? Her life seems to parallel Rands in alot of ways… I feel like a theme in this novel was some of the inner monologues between the 2 characters… in any event that’s all. thanks

seriously guys, you’re killing us with these KoD recaps.. get on TGS already. it really makes no sense to me, in your reluctance to put the KoD recaps on hold for for more important topics, namely… TGS!!!
I agree with frost.
Icant wait for TGS ep.
But frost… You should know that they alredy have all the recap ep. ready and waiting 4 editing.
while they edit them they record new TGS ep.
I really don’t mind the recaps KoD had a lot of good stuff in it that is important for TGS. I AM waiting to listen to the TGS discussion though. The teaser-TGS recap did not do it for me. I need more!
@nophone: I don’t think that being a Hero of Legend automatically qualifies you to be a ta’veren. Ta’veren have been discussed on the 4th age before. I liked the theory that you can be a ta’veren by proxy btw.
If you think about how strongly ta’veren Rand is then it shouldn’t be much of a stretch to think that his very presence in the world shapes events to get Rand where he needs to be. Egwene paralleling Rand could be a result of his need for her to be in that position *minor spoiler* (think how Mat pulled Verin to him).
The Egwene/Rand dichotomy is a theme used throughout these (and many other) books, however. So, it may be nothing more than that, you know, balance and all.
Finally, now sure what software is used for the forums and comments but having a [spoiler] tag would be amazingly helpful to keep unwanted information hidden.
For lack of a better place to post this:

since it doesn’t seem people are interested in commenting on the podcast material. i thought i would throw something in that i would like to hear in a future podcast(after we have a few podcasts discussing TGS, of course)
has there ever been a discussion as to whether or not Rand knows the song? i know on the forums there is some discussion as to whether or not the song is the big “missed thing” thats been overlooked in books 4-6.
how about a discussion on whether or not Rand could seal the bore using the true power? and on along those lines, could Rand use Fain’s dagger to taint the true power(perhaps “killing” the Dark One).
sorry for back to back posts but i just thought of something to do with the song, the Forsaken would know it as well, i suppose.
hmm good call…
i cant say i agree with rand knowing the song… but the music box found in the angreal stash very well might…
from the prolog of the first book, the sword of light was in rands hands without any women… he sealed the bore with saidin(as far as we can tell)… this time we learn that its unsafe, and needs women in the circle… id say its fair to say that a women(or two) will be in the circle when he next reseals it… meaning they’d have access to saidar, saidin and true power… rand doesnt know anything about the true power, and he knows saidin didnt work… my bet is that he’ll use saidar… tainting it along the way
I dont think so.
he wont use only saidar.
he will use both saidar and saidin.
at least that what i understood from TGS… when he talked to lews therin he said he thought that the mistake was using ONLY saidin
he may not use only saidar… but i still believe that the outcome will be that saidar will be tainted… i cannot see that the true power will be used for this… it is something unknown to rand and he has no knowledge of how to control it… and IMHO; it seems a bit late in the series to pull a ray gun out of his hat…
when i first read the part where the ladies are discovering the uses for the ter’angreal all i could think of was that the age of legends had ipods and kindles, and like the rest of you i wondered why those bimbos didnt use any of them! its great they can travel but what is the need when you have cell phone rings and and bowls with google maps? rj makes makes such a big deal over these aol relics and then they get pushed to the way side and forgotten in these peoples biggest hours of need. makes no sense! if i found a ring i didnt have to pay for monthly my phone would be history. it is funny though. when they discoved the the man with the books i didn’t even think they could use it for knowledge. i was cursing jordan because i thought has was going to have them start reading epic poetry written by asmodeans mother or something equally ridiculous
i forget which book its in… but 2 of the forsaken are meeting, and one sends a chime before opening a gateway, which is responded with the same chime… basically a warning “is it safe for me to open a gate” type thing… and there was that music box full of AoL music that avienda found… so technically speaking… yes… they did have them… no cell phones, but thenagain, whats the point if you can gate to them just as easily? and why have ter’angreal for things which they can easily do with the power?
not to mention, in the battle between good and evil, does poking around in 2000 year old music boxes even rank in importance?
going back to Frost’s comment about the Song;
I may be incorrect on this, and if so forgive (and please correct) me. If I remember right, when Rand is in the Aiel City, walking through the Ter’angreal and passing muradin, there’s a paragraph or two of some of the nomadic Aiel (who used to be followers of the Way of the Leaf) abandoning the charge that was given to them by the aes sedai. They had been traveling for years, carrying around the carts laden with objects of power, and were sick of it. some of them emptied out the carts and said they wanted to remember the song(s) they used to sing. so the current tinkers are the offspring of those Aiel who broke off at that point, only they don’t realize that they’re not looking for a specific song, they just wanted to be done with the objects of power.
Again, that’s just how I interpreted that segment, I may have misread it or something but I’m curious what you fellow posters think on the subject.
That whole chapter where Rand is in the golden city is one of my favorites! Very cool trying to figure out the timelines of when each happened according to generations.
yes, the tinkers are decendants of the jin(?) aiel, the aiel who are not aiel… i dont remember if they know or ever had the song… tho in my opinion, seeing as the song is clearly about peace and balance… i would say that perrin is the one that probably knows it… or more to say, the wolf brothers, through young bull… those who dont want to fight… but are inescapably drawn too it in order to preserve peace
tho i will agree… the part with rand in rhuidian(sp) fighting with asmodean is one of my favorites
just because they can travel doesnt mean they know where to travel to. they didnt have cell phones but they had bracelets and rings and other things that let you speak over long distances. you cant tell me something like that might have saved some of them during their misadventures.
for one, you have to know where your travelling from… you just have to have a basic knowledge of where your travelling too… like perrin chasing the aiel, the ashaman were making gateways based on a dirt drawing… lol
and secondly, that was a function of the power-bell they used… if no reply was given, then clearly it either wasnt safe, or they wernt there… sure they may have had some ter’angreal that allowed non-channelers to do this… but i fail to see why they would need this widespread when the power is an easy alternative… if they can sound bells across the world, whos saying they cant powerize words if need be?
your editing sucks.so why does the podcast take so long. If your editing was any good I would understand.
id guess the delays are caused by either a lack of personel, or, a lack of funding… im sure if you were willing to donate either some time or money to their cause, that they would find it easier to get episodes out on a more consistant basis…
however, seeing as this is a free service, and they are donating their time, energy and bandwidth… perhaps we should be less complantive and more supportive…
i’m telling you.. we have to start putting the pressure on Tor. I’m sure Tor makes more money because this site keeps interest in the WoT going, and focuses alot of their target audience in one spot. SURELY, they could help out this site., by donating the services of a couple of their editors. they could help finance .. say..10 podcasts dedicated to TGS. After-all the paperback edition will be coming out sometime(hopefully with better artwork), and Tor helping to keep interest high in TGS by helping to make sure we get some timely podcasts, is only helping Tor’s profit margin. anyone think that a thread in general discussion for a petition to Tor to help out, might succeed?
as to my earlier post regarding Rand probably knowing the song, I was thinking that he would have to, since during his life as Lews Therin, he probably heard it all the time. I wouldn’t Mat would know it, since i don’t think a lot of generals and warriors had much use for tinkers. Perrin might know the tune, because of his connection to the wolves, but if the song has words, i don’t think the wolves could translate that to Perrin. Bergitte, if she DID know it, has probably forgotten it by now. The Forsaken would HAVE to know it, since they probably heard it many times during the AoL, but would have no reason to ever give it to the tinkers. It seems poetic justice if Rand gives the song to the tinkers, because in doing so he would probably bind the tinkers to him as well. and the tinkers along with the aiel would truly be the people of the Dragon…just my two cents…
so how do u think we shoukd do this frost?
should we each send an Email to Tor and plead our case (I dont think alot of people would do it though)
or maybe someone from admin (maybe even the great Jaison denzel Himself) with more influence shoukd do it?
do you think he would do it?
nah. no point in trying to get some help from Jaison, he’s probably on the take. Let’s face it.. he was reading TGS before any of us were, you think he’d jeopardize that over timely podcasts? however i think someone in admin could start a thread asking for petitioners.
sorry for saying you were on the “take” Jaison, please don’t balefire me from the site.
im starting to be very disapointed by the podcast team.
you guys alredy said that you have all the recap episodes finished more than 3 months ago.
does it REALLY take THAT long to EDIT?? c’mon…
never mind the recaps.
most of us are waiting for a TGS disscution.
the book is out for more than 3 months and… nothing.
i know that you have a life to lead and bills to pay, but still.
you sit down and recored every week, but what good does that do when nothing is published?!
virginia said on the septembeer(!!!) episode that the other guys are finishing their read of TGS and when they finish they will begin recording TGS episoddes.
now… either it takes three months to read a book (i know its long but c’mon) or it takes three months to edit.
either way its to loooonnngggg.
agian. i know you are busy people and you owe us nothing but we are all waiting just for you.
so please, please, please hurry up and give us our WOT fix.
its been to long and i feel – as do anothers im sure – like im about to explode.
In answer to the issues people have been having in listening to the podcast online, I just wanted to say that we are still looking into the problem. Our techs have encouraged us to have listeners download the whole podcast either from the link on the podcast page, or on iTunes. These downloads will contain the whole episode, and haven’t been affected by the problems streaming them currently seems to present.
As for the concerns over editing and release of the podcasts, it is mainly an issue of personnel. Sadly the editing of a single podcast to get it to listenable quality is usually on a average ration of 2 to 3 hours of editing per one hour of recorded material (as I understand it, my computer is sadly ill equipped to attempt editing). On an average we record 3 to 4 hours worth of material each session, the majority of which needs for one reason or another to be cut (don’t worry you REALLY aren’t missing anything in that edited material). On our current podcast team we have two individuals who are able to edit, and as was pointed out they do have lives to live and bills to pay. One other concern is that while we attempt to record weekly, there have been breaks, where in it wasn’t possible to get even two of us together to record. This is a failing on our parts, and is not always completely within our control. Nevertheless I would like to apologize on our behalf for when that does occur.
We are always willing to let listeners try their hand at editing, but sadly the offers don’t always yield results. If listeners would like to petition on our behalf for help in making the show more consistent, no one at the 4th Age would object. There have been suggestions to raise funding for paid editors over the years, but nothing thus far has panned out. Any petition set up within the podcast or various dragonmount forums, would almost certainly gain the backing of the members of the podcast (such a petition could also be sent to podcast@dragonmount.com where we could be sure to present it to our host admins for approval and support).
While I may seem like a talking head at the moment, I do want you to know that we do truly regret the delays we’ve experienced and are working to find a viable solution. We do love discussing The Wheel of Time and presenting it for the listeners, as well as conversing through the various forms of feedback. Please bear with us, and we will try to make things right as soon as we can.

Hey y’all. Here’s something to pass the time until the TGS podcast.
I just finished listening to the EotW audiobook (highly recommended btw).
Can anyone riddle me this – is Moiraine yet to claim her ‘reward’ from Rand for healing Tam back in Emonds Field (remembering that he quite vociferously promised Moiraine Sedai *anything*)?
Considering RJ’s tendency not to add plot points unless they had a wider purpose it seems curious that Rand’s oath was mentioned as often as it was without receiving closure in the book.
If she’s crafty enough (and we all know she is) perhaps she’ll remind Rand of this oath sometime after she returns to the world.
Any ideas of what she could ask of him? Perhaps if BS exceeds his word limit on the final two books he could have her ask of Rand not to release the dark one
…
-Alan
as far as im aware… she has not yet collected that oath…
my ideas
1) bonding
2) to break the seals(she always was a smart cookie)
3) to laugh (more cadsuane, but whatever, casuane made him depressed/angry(epic fail)… but she will also see the need for his joy)
Hey, everybody,
I just sat down to upload a podcast, but thought I’d better check in on the comments, since I haven’t even had time to do that lately.
Alas! It’s totally my fault we are so far behind again. I am sorry, not that that helps….
It’s my “job” (by which I mean labor of love – no money involved for any of us) to see these things get edited and posted, and I’ve let you all down. In my feeble defense, I have had probably the worst two months of my life (which is saying something after the last few lousy years – not quite on the order of Rand’s load of cr4p but getting close, only with no cool One Power perks) culminating with the theft of the laptop on which I had most of the podcast files, along with the backup hard drive – yeah, I know, stupid having both in one place but how many of you have off-site backup?) It was only there because the computer at work that I was using to record died and I was trying to salvage the hard drive. Even my HEADPHONES and MIC were in the computer backpack that was stolen. At WORK, no less! So I quit/was let go simultaneously as there was no one else who could have lifted the stuff besides one of my co-workers, who I thought were friends….
And that was the good week.
This also means I lost the place I was recording and uploading, because my internet connection at home is not true hi-speed, but crummy wireless. So, life moves on.
Needless to say, if I could channel, there would probably be a new Dragonmount south of LA right now!
Not an excuse, but that is the reason or at least a reason. We have still been recording as much as possible, and yes, there are episodes nearly ready to post. I’ll do my best to get them out faster, but it’s an uphill battle these days.
We can always use editing help, before we burn poor Spencer out totally, so if you have audio skills, email us at podcast@dragonmount.com. It isn’t terribly difficult – but editing is very time-consuming, and I guess that’s what defeats people eventually.
Yours in the Light
Virginia
great comments!
