Chapters 10-11 of Knife of Dreams are the topic of discussion. These are more in a series of chapters devoted primarily to Mat. As always, during our discussions we go into all the books of the Wheel of Time series, from the prequel New Spring through Knife of Dreams, so if you haven’t finished your first read-through, you may want to come back to these podcasts when you have, as THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. The team once again sends thanks to editor Spencer for a job well done. My apologies for being so tardy getting them posted…and we have two episodes on TGS done that just need – you guessed it – editing! Virginia

  • [...] The 4th Age Podcast – Episode 63 – Knife of Dreams Recap Part 6 – Ch. 10-11 [...]

  • I think you were wrong about why the Seanchan believe that ravens being spies for the Dark One is a children’s fable. I don’t recall which book it was, but somewhere they mention that the Seanchan killed off all the Shadowspawn early after arriving there (also why they don’t believe in Shadowspawn anymore). I would guess that Myrddraal or Trollocs or something else in the Blight that doesn’t exist in Seanchan are required to control ravens and rats, so the Seanchan have never encountered it happening.

  • Hey guys – we did get a POV from Shaidar Haran (Chapter 40, aCoS — when he was spying on Sammael / Graendal talking with Sevanna)

  • Actually that was Moridin if I’m not mistaken. He senses the TP and saidin but not saidar and has the saa across his eyes (which Shaidar Haran wouldn’t have).

  • Actually, I think I’m mistaking/forgetting the scene where Sammy scatters the Shaido.

  • The Myrddraal moved from the deeper shadows, becoming visible. In its eyes, the gateways had left a
residue—three patches of glowing mist. It could not tell one flow from another”, but it could distinguish saidin from saidar by the smell. Saidin smelled like the sharp edge of a knife, the point of a thorn. Saidar smelled soft, but like something that would grow harder the harder it was pressed. No other Myrddraal could smell that difference. Shaidar Haran was like no other Myrddraal.

Picking up a discarded spear, Shaidar Haran used it to upend the bag Sammael had discarded, and then
to stir the bits of stone that fell out. Much was happening outside the plan. Would these events churn chaos, or….
Angry black flames raced down the spear haft from Shaidar Haran’s hand, the hand of the Hand of the
Shadow. In an instant the wooden haft was charred and twisted; the spearhead dropped off. The Myrddraal let the blackened stick fall and dusted soot from its palm. If Sammael served chaos, then -all was well. If not….
A sudden ache climbed the back of its neck; a faint weakness washed along its limbs. Too long away
from Shayol Ghul. That tie had to be severed somehow. With a snarl, it turned to find the edge of shadow that it needed. The day was coming. It would come.

  • What I think when RJ said Matt must give up half of the light of the world is that Matt must let Seanchan burn to have enough troops to strike at and reach Shayol Ghul and to hold long enough for Rand to do what he needs to do
