Chapters 7-9 of Knife of Dreams are the topic of discussion by Andrew G and Spencer. These are the first of a series of chapters devoted primarily to Mat, and the guys enjoy their night out with him immensely!

As always, during our discussions we go into all the books of the Wheel of Time series, from the prequel New Spring through Knife of Dreams, so if you haven’t finished your first read-through, you may want to come back to these podcasts when you have, as THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

The team once again sends thanks to editor Spencer for a job well done.

  • Hey all-

We’re working as fast as we can to get the final editing done on the last of these episodes so we can get them out asap. We had hoped to get them out in a timely fashion, but life (as it often does)got in the way a bit. Nevertheless, we will be posting the remainder of the recap as soon as we can, and then you can all laugh at us as our theories are blown out of the water by what you’ve read in TGS. Following that, we have at least one (probably more though they aren’t recorded yet) show dedicated to the crew’s first reactions to TGS, another special interview episode that we are setting up to record either later this month or in December (sorry I can’t say more right now), as well as a number of shows that have been recorded that are in editing from before our KoD recap. We also have an older interview that our host founder, Jason, had done with the Audio book voice talent that we still want to package up and get to everyone. So there is a lot on the proverbial podcast plate.

  • Hey Andrew:
Thanks for getting these podcasts out. I’m really looking forward to hearing the interview that Jason D. did with Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. They do a great job with the series. I was stoked when I saw they were doing the audio for TGS, and I hope they will be doing the audio for the last 2 books. I have the whole series on my iPod, and I do my “re-reads” listening to the books. I highly recommend to the WOT community listening to the series with Mr. Kramer and Ms. Reading.
    Keep up the great work!!

  • this podcast was very nice, i like the two of you batting various theories back and forth without anybody dominating the conversation and unilaterally declaring some theory incorrect. thank you again for your great work.

  • You’d think I’d know – seeing as I not only was there when it was recorded, but also edited the darn thing – which theory you are referring to, but I don’t.

  • Let me preface by saying this I have enjoyed listening to the recap of Knife of Dreams. The amount of hypothesizing that your crew and the WoT community have done is amazing to me! I can’t wait to get my hands on TGS to see where these plot lines end.

That said I just wanted to comment on the completely irrelevant comments that you made at the end of the podcast regarding the possibility of WoT the animated series.

It was sad to here that only anime and CGI discussed as possibilities. There are so many great animated series that are not anime that I can definately see WoT transferred into this medium. Some examples are Samurai Jack, Gargoyles, Star Wars: Clone Wars (actually uses CGI), and Batman TAS. The animation in all of these shows is top notch and enjoyable to watch, regardless of plot.

Just my 2 copper pennies. carry on.

  • Great show guys. Wish I could have helped with this and the others… Alas, life…

On a small side note, Spencer’s Audio was a tad bit sketchy in this episode, but it did not take away from the conversation which is what this is all about anyway. And I’m sure editing this episode must have been tough, so kudos.

  • Hey Seth-

Actually when I first made the suggestion of an animated WoT series, I was thinking of something like Gargoyles or Batman the animated series. I would have pressed the point a bit more, but I had thought that the episode was running a bit long, and didn’t want to dwell too much on something that didn’t apply to the discussion at hand. If they did an animated series (thereby still giving me a shot at playing Mat) I would envision the style somewhere between Gargoyles and the original animated Spawn series. Traditional animation is sadly falling into obscurity and I feel that isn’t a good thing. Thanks for raising the point, so that I could modify my previous statements.

  • [...] The 4th Age Podcast – Episode 61 – Knife of Dreams Recap Part 5 – Ch. 7-9 – I love these for their uber-in depth analysis. I wish this kind of thing was more common everywhere. [...]

  • One thing I’d like to point out about the Seanchan POV on channeling. We have to remember that Hawkwing himself hated Aes Sedai. It stands to reason that his armies would pick up the distrust a be predisposed to distrust Aes Sedai and jump on a chance to control them my force. I think this sets up the basis very easily for Sul ‘Dam and Damane, and the generally feeling held by a population who has taken to setting above all others even those who could claim to have ancesters who were part of Hawkwing’s army.

  • whats going on with the rest of the recap?
    will it be published?
