  • in your review of chapter 3, specifically the forsaken tea party, i think you missed a major point. (not sure what page but towards the beginning of the party)

    mesaana says to aran’gar
“why did you let her go, aran’gar? you were supposed to be controlling her! were you so busy playing your little dream-games with her that you forgot to learn what she was thinking?”

the major “missing” point being the “…were you so busy playing your little dream-games with her…” portion which would seem to indicate that aran’gar has been not only causing headaches for egwene but has also been messing with her dreams. couldn’t this mean that at least some of the foretelling type dreams that egwene has been having are in fact planted by aran’gar and if so, which ones. or has aran’gar simply been messing with “reality” in the dream world?

i would think (unless i am miles off on this) that this in and of itself could be worth an hours discussion.

thanks for the work you all do, i do enjoy the podcasts.

  • Hmm interesting concept. However, it is said that the knowing of a dream comes from within the dreamer, so any dreams that have been tampered with will not arouse this “knowing” so therefore wouldn’t make all that much difference

  • Great point on the dream issue. I’m sure it is significant, but not sure how much. I think Aran’Gar was giving Egwene the bad dreams she was complaining about, but not the foretelling dreams.

As for me, I noticed something when reading episode 4, that I’m not sure people picked up on.
Perrin’s thoughts about the banner before the sean’chan come to the meeting is a memory about Able Cauthon saying in a deal you always have to let the other guy think he’s got more then he has. IMO Perrin gave the sean’chan the banner as a joke. HE was never interested in reviving Manetheren, but his people were. Perrin was always annoyed with the banner, but it kept popping back up, and I’m sure he expects that now too.

    My thoughts on that episode.

    A.

  • That is a great point about the dreams and Aran’gar, but I’m leaning towards Keith’s interpretation – she gave her the dark and disturbing ones she could not recall and the headaches, but the Dreamer dreams were her own as always. What worries me more is that she laid some latent Compulsion weave on her that will show up down the road. Though after recent events, that seems less likely.

  • About the army of trollocs moved through the ways: wasn’t the idea they were sent by the chosen only reached through the fact that only they could have the power and influence to do it? But Fain has repeatedly shown the ability to coerce Myrdraal, and that would make it very possible those were the ones who attacked Emond’s Field. Considering how ignorant the Forsaken are in some aspects and none have taken responsibilty, they wouldn’t necessarily know until much later since it is so isolated.

The only question is where Fain managed to get them, but that has been unexplained many times and there are Waygates in the Blight. I can’t see the Forsaken stooping to watching wherever the armies are built.

  • I was sure that it was Isam that was bringing the trollocs to Emonds Field. They were shouting Isam during the battle, and once it was over we got Fain’s point of view and he was wondering why Isam stopped bringing more trollocs. But, yes, those could be the trollocs Mordeth was talking about.

  • Hey, guys, keep up the good work on the podcast!

Regarding episode 60 and the annoyance with Perrin’s whining. I don’t think the comparison with Chewbacca really does Chewie justice. If you’re looking for a movie comparison, I think Perrin has been more like Keifer Sutherland’s character in Young Guns.

One other thing, regarding Mat and black items. I must have misheard–did Virginia say that Tuon is a black woman? I really must have missed something in my reading. I don’t think she’s from Shara–please clarify!!!

  • Oh, yeah, I guess considering she has ebony skin, that would qualify. Okay. Yeah. Ummm. Yeah.

  • My favourite line was when Andrew said “…and honestly, I don’t really care about Mishima one way or the other. He can totally die for all I care…”

    smirk.

  • Seathrun O Coileain, just as the main continent is Eurasia, the Seanchan continents are representative of the Americas and as you’d expect their inhabitants run the of skin tones. No one cares about race in this setting anyways. Ishara the first Queen of Andor was black and she reigned over subjects that were English in their features.
