The Gathering Storm, the twelfth book in the Wheel of Time series, debuted at the number one spot on the prestigious New York Times bestseller list. This is the fifth WoT novel to hold the spot, and the first time that author Brandon Sanderson has been there. Gathering Storm‘s appearance on the list ended a six or seven week reign that Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol had been holding onto. Congratulations to Brandon Sanderson and “Team Jordan” for this outstanding effort and accomplishment. And of course, congratulations as well to the late Robert Jordan, who’s book this truly is. Goosebumps, tears, giggles, despair, triumph, joy – this is just some of what I went through reading TGS. Very well worth the wait! I felt uneasy in the beginning, being very conscious that another author was at the helm – I was looking for the differences – but soon it all flowed seamlessly into a Jordan-esque style. I did miss that Jordan wit though. But Brandon’s briefer style was fabulous – I sometimes got frustrated with drawn out descriptions and the pace of this epic part-finale did not allow for any flowery-ness. Favourite stuff: Egwene’s story, Mat in the zombie village, Verin’s revelation (although sad). Not so favourite: Rand’s darkness (I was begging for it to be ended by the end of the book!), not having brief catch-ups with the likes of Elayne and Lan. All-in-all it was superb and I’m so happy I only got it now from my mom who sent it to me(I live in Malawi – far from any bookstore!)so I don’t have too long to wait for the next one! Superb job Brandon – it’s apparent that RJ was watching over your shoulder every step of the way
Well done Team Jordan on the number 1 spot – frikken amazing!!!!!

Like many others of you, I got TGS the day it came out, and finished it within a few hours, and have read it several times since. I agree that Brandon did a great job, but there were some major differences in wording that tended to jar me out of the story (one, his constant use of the term “channelers,” which throughout my reread of the series, I never found used until this book. If I am wrong, someone please tell me where R.J. referred to those who could channel as “channelers” consistently.) Other than that, I have to say that the story was excellent, some of the plot lines well ended, and both my 14 year old son and I are looking forward to the next book. I still wish Robert Jordan had been able to finish it. While I enjoyed TGS, it was like eating lasagna made with my mother’s recipe by someone else–great, but not as amazing.
