It was announced today that Book 13 of The Wheel of Time series will be titled “Towers of Midnight“. Also, the title of the 14th book, which will conclude the series was confirmed to be A Memory of Light. On his blog, Brandon Sanderson wrote:

After a long round of conversations with Tor and Harriet, we settled on TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT as the title. There are various reasons for this, which I’ll go into more once the book is out next year. I’m pleased, however, as this was the title I suggested. It’s actually appropriate in an interesting way. Harriet was the one who came up with the name for the first of the three, and the second one gets the title I proposed. And so, we will (as I’ve been saying for a while) use Mr. Jordan’s title for the final of the three, A MEMORY OF LIGHT.

Towers of Midnight (Note the lack of the word “the” in the title) is currently still being written. Brandon hopes to turn it into the publisher in late 2009 or early 2010. He estimates that the book will be published in late 2010, approximately 1 year from the time that THE GATHERING STORM comes out.

A Memory of Light will likely be published a year after that, in late 2011. This was the title Robert Jordan originally wanted the last book in the series to be named.

When it was originally announced that the WoT series would be finished in three novels, the working titles were Gathering Clouds, Shifting Winds, and Tarmon’Gaidon. Those three have changed and are now The Gathering Storm, Towers of Midnight, and A Memory of Light.

So what do you think the title refers to. (I’ve read Gathering Storm, so I shouldn’t comment). Let the speculation begin! Reply in the comments, or head over to our forums. Also, if you are on Tiwtter, use #WoT13 to share your thoughts.

the Gathering Storm is a reference to the build up o fthe storm Nyneave has been sensing for so long… its not only Tarmon Gaidon, but the storm of conflict that is yet to truly show between the world and the Dragon…. obviously we know that now we must deal with the political as well as the emotional impact of the seanchan attack on the White tower but how else will it effect the uniting of the world toward the last battle….

Towers of Midnight: I believe this book will focus big time on Mat and the tower of Ghenji but also i think it will also refer to the handling finally of Taim and the connection of the White and Black towers in some way in our final our “midnight” will the towers unite or not… but also must be taken into effect that the Seanchan much like the children of the Light have their own questioners who take people to the Tower of Midnight for the question if i remember correctly. So now we will see what connection the towers all have together. and see what new darkness overcomes our three brave taveren as they come closer to the last battle, and if some how Elaida returns to the tower to put us further in doubt.

A Memory of Light: I think we will find that instead of every think being tied up and the route to how the world will unite against the Last Battle in Towers of Midnight that that will be a big focus to this book i believe that once things are united it will flow very quickly to Last Battle, however i believe that a Memory of Light would have been Roberts way of hinting at what will build from the Fortellings he has build up in all his books and the wandering if Mins visions will finally find a breaking point… they laid the ground work in the Gathering Storm when she discuss that her visions are only true so long as the Dragon makes it to Tarmon Gaidon, but what will happen to the Weave of the Wheel when the dark One is set free could he effect even what might have already been written?

Either way i hope and pray Brandon does as good on these next two to keep the honor of the series going as Robert did .

The Gathering Storm- The Dark One is touching the world more and more, and The Gathering Storm would be a symbol for how the Dark One is gathering forces to fight for him in Tarmon’ Gaidon.

The Towers Of Midnight- Thom, Juilin, and Mat rescue Moiraine from the tower of Ghenji, as she will play a part in Tarmon’ Gaidon I think.

A Memory Of Light- The world darkens as the Dark One Breaks free, and Tarmon’ Gaidon comes.

One more thing, Ishmael, or Moridin, reveals that he was the one to alter the Seachan version of the prophesies centuries ago. He has been working the events of the world for three thousand years, all culminating in the last Last battle, for good or bad.

I just want to share a few of my personal beliefs. I have read many times that Demandred is controling Taim, but I think that Taim is a new Forsaken. Why would the Dark One want him, he is powerful in the power and controls and recruits from the Black Tower. And I also do not think that Demandred has anything to do with the Seachan, that was Semirhage’s territory, she set the chaos in otion and no two forsaken have yet been seen working the same people. The Ayyad is believable, but I think it more likely he is manipulating the Borderlanders, why else would the stay away from the Borderland kingdoms this long. And “sisters” (AS) have already walked the black tower grounds.
