This isn’t exactly one of our Storm Leader reports that we’ve been posting throughout the U.S. book tour for THE GATHERING STORM. At each tour location, Dragonmount and Tor Books recruited a select group of volunteer fans to help run the event, hand out promotional materials, and represent us to the fans. In return, they were given the opportunity to meet with Brandon Sanderson and (if present for their event) Robert Jordan’s wife Harriet. Sometimes, things got out of hand. We will have a full report with photos and possibly video for Brandon and Jason’s epic Magic battle later on. An explanation of what is going on can be found here, here and here. Prior Storm Leader reports can be found here.
News Flash: Apparently feeling a need to bring some excitement to our otherwise placid pre-signing dinner in Half Moon Bay last night, Jason Denzel suddenly smashed his water glass against the table we all shared and brandished it as a weapon, all too close to both Brandon Sanderson and Harriet McDougal. Ever-heroic Brandon shielded serene and amused Harriet with his own body. Vigilant and brave Storm Leaders scribbled notes furiously. Jason and Brandon agreed to settle their dispute later in the evening at The Ritz Carleton over a potentially dangerous game of Magic. You see, myth becomes legend. . . .

Seriously he is, Brandon’s entire writing process seems very modern. I love it, just started his own books and oh my god is Mistborn amazing!

Mike, I think Harriet meant the twisting of the balloons, but I learned that she is a lovely lady with a definite mischievous glint in her eye. So she could have meant anything. Brandon seemed eager to get the balloon animal securely in his possession for his son, who will probably completely destroy it. We heard that the tyke is very destructive (like my firstborn, I can relate). Anyway, what a fun thing that was! Thanks again, Mike!
And is not Brandon S. the most open and accessible author ever? We all really enjoyed all of the VIPs at HMB.

I made the balloon there in the picture. I hope they, and every body else, liked it. She told me later that she likes men with a twisted sence of humor. Do you think that was a reference to what the wolves in the book call the trollocks? hm…. oh well. Me and my wife thought Brandon and harriet were awesome people and we hope to come during the next book signing. Maybe Ill make Mat Cauthon for that one.

You did? Oh wow! I am so saving that to my computer if it gets posted!
And I seriously was not expecting that card… I actually was rather confused, I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to take it or not. lol
I can’t even describe how much I loved being there, I saw Robert Jordan at a signing when I was thirteen but I was too shy to even look at his face. Now I never will be able to, but participating at this event makes me feel like I can make up for my silliness of years past a little. Thank you Storm Leaders for helping out so much!

O.K., I wrote the silliness above, but that was just a teaser, darlins! Our awesome storm-child Kyle has the full lowdown of a truly star-studded-if-claustrophobic event. Not only did we enjoy the wonderful Harriet and Brandon, we got to be silly with Matt Hatch of Theoryland and the aforementioned Jason, a fun and hard-working dude. (I was rooting for you to win the big game, Jason!) I was way too busy to have meaningful conversations with Jennifer and some others, but I remember Sierra, Steve/Steve’s mom and Johnna.
My captions didn’t make it under the photos above, but that’s a balloon trolloc someone made in Brandon’s hands. And Johnna got one of only four or five of the new RAFO cards! Our Michael snapped a great photo of it and if it doesn’t get posted, I’ll send it to you somehow. I tried to earn one later, but FAILED!

I love how there were so many dragonmount people there! Though, I wish anyone else from my ajah was able to go, but alas no one lives near me. I’m in the top picture, well, my back is anyway. It was really nice talking with you guys at the signing!
