Poems
"The Story Is Told"
Masks in the firelight,
Shadows dance,
Chants in the night,
Everyone in a trance,
Sound meets sight,
Old man’s eyes shine bright,
And the story is told.
Stealers of fire,
Gods walking the earth,
Dangers dire,
There’s death and rebirth,
Worlds lower and higher,
And the children never tire,
And the story is told.
The story is told,
The story get’s told,
Gets killed and resurrected,
Youth comes out of old,
New blood paints new verses,
Adds to the tale,
And though it’s always the same,
It never will fail,
For we never get our fill,
We love it still,
And the story is told.
Pirates ride sea,
Ghosts wail in dark,
Gunpowder and debris,
Good and evil still stark,
Feels solid as history,
What the quill pen makes us see,
And the story is told.
Now ships may ride space,
But there’s still magic swords,
Heroes looking for grace,
Villains guarding their hoards,
Still lights up the kid’s face,
Even in a steel and plastic place,
And the story is told.
The story is told,
The story get’s told,
Gets killed and resurrected,
Youth comes out of old,
New blood paints new verses,
Adds to the tale,
And though it’s always the same,
It never will fail,
For we never get our fill,
We love it still,
And the story is told.
I read the verses you add,
And they make me glad,
Make me mad and sad,
They make me feel.
And as you build it up like a tower,
The story gains more power,
Each day and each hour,
And it feels so real.
And if ever I add some verses of mine,
I know for sure that in every line,
There’ll be some of the shine
Some of the glow of you.
Cause your words are stuck deep in me,
Rooted down in my heart like a tree,
And they always will be,
Ringing strong and true.
And my story get’s told,
And your story is told,
And other stories are told.
And they all add to the tale,
It’ll never fail,
For we’ll never get our fill,
We love it all still,
And the story is told.
Thanks for all the great stories and I hope you get well as soon as possible.
You’re in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Devin Christensen
