When will Book 12 be published? What do we know about it?

On December 10, 2007, Tor Books issued a press release. Brandon Sanderson has been chosen to finish A Memory of Light. He is scheduled to turn in the manuscript December 2008 with anticipated publication some time in the fall of 2009. Here is the full article.

Well, a lot of things changed since 2007. The book turned out to be larger even than Robert Jordan expected. Consequently, it will be published in three parts. Part 1, The Gathering Storm, will be released on November 3, 2009. Parts 2 and 3, as yet untitled, will be released in 2010 and 2011. Keep watching the main news page updates.

What other books did Robert Jordan plan to write? What about the other two prequels?

In the Wheel of Time, Robert Jordan intended to write two more "prequels" that would fall in between New Spring and The Eye of the World. The first is the story of how Tam al'Thor found baby Rand and decided to return to the Two Rivers. The second is the story of how Moiraine and Lan arrived at the Two Rivers just in the nick of time. Robert Jordan left notes on these stories but there is no decision yet on whether or not they will be written and published. In addition to the prequels, he was toying with an idea for an additional story line in the Wheel of Time universe that could have led to two or three more "outrigger" books. We believe these would involve Mat and Tuon back in Seanchan a few years in the future.

Now that Brandon Sanderson is finishing the main chronology, will any of these books be written and published? Here is what Brandon has to say on the subject: http://www.brandonsanderson.com/faq/section/3/Wheel-Of-Time-FAQ It will be Harriet McDougal's decision, with some input from Tor, as to whether or not any will be written and by whom (though Brandon is the obvious choice and is willing). In any case, the focus now is on finishing the main chronology. No decision, one way or the other, is expected until well after the main books are completed and published, at least two or three more years.

Will there be more e-books of The Wheel of Time specifically in Kindle format?

Tor Books is very interested in publishing the Wheel of Time books in the Kindle format. However, Robert Jordan's estate still owns the electronic publishing rights. Harriet (RJ's widow) is hesitant to embrace that new technology. We don't know the exact reasons behind that hesitation, but we're sure she would be open to hearing fans voice their thoughts on it.

You can write to Harriet using the guidelines provided here:

What is the currency break down for the Wheel of Time world?

Here is the answer Robert Jordan gave in the Tor Q&A:

"This varies from country to country, along with the sizes and weights of the various coins, the reason that bankers and others - such as Bran al'Vere - use scales for comparing coins. The heaviest coins in weight of precious metal come from Andor and Tar Valon. For the coins of those two, the scale is very simple.

Ten copper pennies = one silver penny.
One hundred silver pennies = one silver mark.
Ten silver marks = one silver crown.
Ten silver crowns = one gold mark.
Ten gold marks = one gold crown.

As an example of other countries' currencies, the scale for Altara, where the weight of silver or gold in larger coins is less than that in Andor or Tar Valon, is this:

Ten copper pennies = one silver penny.
Twenty-one silver pennies = one silver mark.
Twenty silver marks = one silver crown.
Twenty silver crowns = one gold mark.
Twenty gold marks = one gold crown."
