About these images
In 2005, Dragonmount was lucky enough to receive a special Christmas gift from the Dabel Brothers, the creators of the New Spring graphic novel. We called this the "13 Days of Christmas". Each day for 13 days, they released a new color image for all 13 of the original Forsaken. The images are available below, sized to fit common desktop sizes. They're great for screensavers or desktop images. Watch out for spoilers if you've not read all the books! They are here again for you to enjoy and share with your WoT friends. By the way, you may notice that we're missing some descriptions below. If you think you can write a good description that matches the length and style of the others, please email them to us and we'll post them and give you credit. Think of it as a Christmas gift many years late. :) |

DAY 1: Aginor
December 12, 2005
Aginor, the dreaded Forsaken, was born Ishar Morrad Chuain. In the Age of Legends he was a master researcher who had unlocked the secrets of science and the One Power. His discoveries led him into dangerous territory as he began experimenting and creating living entities that were not part of the Creator's original world. Giving his soul to the Dark One meant that Aginor would be allowed to experiment on his creations and populate his master's army.
When Lews Therin Telamon and his Hundred Companions sealed the Dark One and the other Forsaken away, Aginor was trapped near the surface of the prison. He could not interact with the world, but he could sense it, and float around the world. 3,000 years of captivity ground his body into decay.
After his release from the prison, Aginor went to the Eye of the World and confronted Rand. There he was killed by Rand, who used the Power within the Eye to destroy him.
But the Dark One's greatest servants are often given a second chance....

DAY 2: Balthamel
December 13, 2005
Balthamel always served the Dark One from the shadows. Born Eval Ramman, he delighted in "pleasures of the flesh" in the Age of Legends. He was deeply involved in the underground world and controlled crime networks.
Like Aginor, he was trapped near the surface of the prison that Lews Therin and the Hundred Companions created. Able to sense the world on occasion, he was unable to interact with it. The grinding of the Wheel of Time decimated his body, leaving only an ugly shell. By the time he was freed, he had lost the power of speech and was eager to once again feel soft flesh.
Balthamel was killed by the Green Man at the Eye of the World. The first of the Forsaken to die in this "primitve" Age, he has been granted a second chance to serve. But being resurrected by the Dark One has its costs.

DAY 3: Be'lal
December 14, 2005
Very little is known about the Forsaken Be'lal. We know that his name in the Age of Legends was Duram Laddel Cham, and that he was accomplished and well respected. (Hence the three-part name). He was a master swordsman and a one-time dueling companion of Lews Therin before the War of the Shadow.
After awaking from his long sleep in the Dark One's prison, he went to Tear and claimed the great sa'angreal, Callandor, for his own. Unable to touch it because of ancient wards, he lured Rand into the Heart of the Stone to try and tempt him into taking it. The plan worked, and Rand drew out Callandor. But the rest backfired on Be'lal and he was destroyed by Moiraine's balefire.

DAY 4: Lanfear
December 15, 2005
Few women in history have made as big of an impact as Mierin Eronaile. A former lover to Lews Therin Telamon, Mierin was considered to be the most beautiful woman of the Age. As a researcher at the Sharom in Collam Daan during the Age of Legends, she believed that her research would reveal a way that men and women could work with a common Power. When she and her team drilled what later became the Bore, the Dark One was freed and war engulfed the world.
Mierin gave her soul to the Dark One, and was the only Forsaken who chose her own name... Lanfear, Daughter of the Night. She is unrivaled in her strength and mastery of the One Power. Indeed, there is speculation that she literally was as strong in the Power as was humanly possible for a woman. When she awoke 3,000 years later from her "dreamless sleep" in the Dark One's prison, she set out to find Lews Therin. She found him in Rand, and sought to seduce him to her cause. She believed that with the Choeden Kal, they could challenge the Dark One, or even the Creator.
Her dreams of limitless power ended on the docks of Cairhien when Moiraine Sedai seemingly sacrificed herself and sent her into the twisted doorway which leads to the land of the Aelfinn. What happened there is as of yet unknown, but we know that the Dark One has given her a "Last Chance".

DAY 5: Asmodean
December 16, 2005
Of all the reasons to sell one's soul to the Dark One, Asmodean had the strangest: music. Music and poetry were what Joar Addam Nessosin cared most about before he went over to the Shadow. He was well known as a musician, and respected as a channeler.
When the War of Power began, Asmodean believed that victory was going to belong to the Dark One. So he committed himself to that side of the war and committed countless atrocities, including the severing of his own mother.
After his 3,000 year sleep inside the Dark One's prison, Asmodean teamed up with Lanfear to track Rand into the Aiel Waste. There he marked Couladin with the dragon tattoos in order to advance chaos. After battling with Rand for control of the male Choeden Kal, Asmodean was shielded by Lanfear and forced to be Rand's teacher. He reluctantly did so and gave Rand some invaluable lessons regarding saidin and the Dark One himself.
After Caemlyn was taken back by Rand, Asmodean was killed under mysterious circumstances, kicking off the largest debate in Wheel of Time fandom: Who Killed Asmodean? We may not know for certain who did it, but we do know that Asmodean will not be coming back. The Dark One himself confirmed that he is done. That's probably what you get for severing your mother.

DAY 6: Moghedien
December 17, 2005
Preferring to work from the Shadows, Moghedien served her master as the ultimate instigator. Born Lilen Moiral, she became known as "The Spider" when she went into the service of the Dark One. Her domain has always been Tel'aran'rhiod, the World of Dreams. There, she spins her web so finely, so perfectly, that even the other Forsaken do not know the level of mastery she has over it. Lanfear always believed she ruled the Unseen World, but Moghedien knew better.
In this new Age, Moghedien set out to do what she does best: work from the Shadows. There she plotted not only against Rand and his friends, but against the other Forsaken as well. When Nynaeve proved to be braver and more clever than she, Moghedien became a secret servant to her as well as Egwene and Elayne. She was eventually freed, but not before teaching them weaves and secrets that she should not have. The Dark One is a harsh master, and she was punished and put back into line. Now, she wears a cour'souvra, a Mindtrap, which is controlled by Moridin.
